Hello Jolla, hello Sailfish fans!

First of all... sorry about this post, it is in no way question, bug report nor feature request. I'm always nagging here about Sailfish and why Jolla doesn't do this and doesn't do that.

Sometimes we'd need to give positive feedback too, I guess :-)

Because there are qualities in Sailfish that just smashes the competition! My absolute favorite of all times - is that when you tap on some text on Sailfish you get the cursor (is it cursor in English? - I mean the place where you'd next type text) EXACTLY where you want! You can pin point it anywhere in the text and it lands just where you want. I mean... this is just fantastic. Iphone sucks big time with this. Their cursor lands randomly where ever and to compensate it they need to have magnification glass (tap and hold) to correct the problem. I just hate it (and my employer forces us to use Iphones, which is pretty dull). I can't remember now (from Xperia X's days of android - now flashed ;-) if it's the same shite with Android, but atleast not as good as in Sailfish.

And the swiping system of Sailfish OS is just brilliant.

So... Let us know what qualities you like in Sailfish and show your love to the system :-)

Suppose - just suppose - the cursor doesn't land "EXACTLY where you want!". Maybe the user is not as young as you are, or they are bouncing about in a car (as a passenger, of course). How can you move it?

The iOS magnifying glass that you so dislike is actually a neat piece of UI. (On Android I use the the cursor keys on the Hacker Keyboard so I'm not sure what it provides.)

Of course there are different scenarios to use a phone - suppose you are in entertainment park's roller coaster or in a moon rocket lifting off? I mean... this is very subjective of course to a multitude of variants. Well, it's just me, but for me SFOS cursor is way superb o other phone OS. I'm 39 and doesn't have the smallest fingers I'd assume.

@DaveRo: In case you need it, there's this magnifying feature in SFOS, too. So no need to envy iOS users. ;)

Well, the irony is that it's exactly the cursor I despair of, at least here within the browser. ;)

Your point - that tapping does seem pretty accurate - is a good one. But I assume that this is hardware-related rather than the OS. On my Nokia N810 I used to have to calibrate the screen - but I haven't seen that for years. My Nexus 9 is also very accurate when tapping. My wife's iPad much less so - but it's very old.

As for the Jolla GUI - I'd say it's a curate's egg. Personally I'd like an to get rid of pulley menus - at least as an option. Try selecting one if several pulley options in a roller-coaster ;)

For me one of the most appreciated quality is the relatively frugal user interface. I liked ui1 a little bit better but still ui2 is very good. I am very grateful that there is this Jolla company, wouldn't want to use a google-android or iPhone. Thanks a lot!

Is it necessary to advise us say, on the calendar app to swipe left/right to change month each time it is opened after a reboot, after you've seen it once, you don't need to be reminded of it time and again.(Other apps have a similar advice "pop-up") . The top of my wishlist however, is a homescreen. One that opens on boot with everything that you regularly need on it, as oppose to the lock screen. I fail to see the advantage or point of the lock screen or am I missing something. The phone could boot straight into an unlock code/pin screen, if you have one set, or directly into the homescreen itself, with a pulley menu for homescreen settings, and to assign it a unique gesture such that you can return to it wherever you are. (On my Blackberry there is a productivity tab that is available whatever you are doing, whose role is similar to the lock screen pulley menu i.e. a few shortcuts ,could something similar be adapted such that you can go back to the homescreen instead?) As an aside has anybody else noticed how slow the proximity sensor is to restore the screen once away from your ear. Using my banking phone app can be a pain I hope with the above I haven't come across negatively, because I want Sailfish to succeed,( I have three of them) . Cheers

@rogger888: There is intentional hysteresis in proximity uncover, you can make it respond faster at the expense of making it more likely to unblank while at ear.

mcetool --set-incall-ps-uncover-delay=N

Where N is delay in milliseconds. Default is 500 ms.

Note that powering up display takes some time too. In some devices under some circumstances it might take much longer than waiting for clarity on p-sensor state.

UI is result of implementing Qt5, which is indeed very nice. Thanks Jolla!

However overall functionality is degrading and renders Sailfish X unusable for daily use.

with AquaFish I lost SYNCML
with Sailfish X I lost HFT (thanks bluez5)
looking into the logs BT is a mess
Kernel v3 - I would expect something like early 4 - but who knows what driver support looks like - anyway - too many oops
Developers focus on things in my opinion not that important - so loosing core users

To sum up God bless my Nokia N9 and give it ability to work as it does now until 1 and 2 at least are solved.
