Hi,

I am not able to update from 2.1.2.3 to 2.1.3.7. When I try with version --dup it is always restarting the update at this step:

Any idea what is the WA in this case?

We checked once more that updating Jolla1 from 2.1.2.3 to 2.1.3.7 and from 2.1.0.11 to 2.1.3.7 keeps working. Hence the release repository is ok. The initial versions here were either flashed or factory-reset to the device implying that the devices had a 'clean' Sailfish OS in them.
- What is causing the issue reported in this post is still unclear.

Ok, but what about these "Stale file handle" errors:

[root@Sailfish nemo]# ls -al /usr/share/doc/wireless-regdb-2016.06.10
ls: cannot access /usr/share/doc/wireless-regdb-2016.06.10: Stale file handle
[root@Sailfish nemo]# ls -al /usr/share/zypper/xml
ls: cannot access /usr/share/zypper/xml: Stale file handle
[root@Sailfish nemo]# ls -al /opt/alien/usr/share/doc/wireless-regdb-2016.06.10
ls: cannot access /opt/alien/usr/share/doc/wireless-regdb-2016.06.10: Stale file handle
[root@Sailfish nemo]# ls -al /opt/alien/usr/share/zypper/xml
ls: cannot access /opt/alien/usr/share/zypper/xml: Stale file handle
[root@Sailfish nemo]#

Don't know if it is because of the upgrade or of something else. Maybe this is the reason the update fails.

There is a highly related post here https://together.jolla.com/question/174075/update-from-2123-to-2137-fails-on-jolla-1/ :)

Have you tried to update your phone the usual way?

Nope, not same issue. I tried normal way like 10 times. It fails soon after it starts to display the white bar. When I try with version --dup it fails at this package wireless-regdb 2016.06.10-1.3.6. I searched and read already the first similar threads. If additional logs are needed just tell me.

cocof2001 ( 2017-11-21 08:56:53 +0300 )edit

I replaced the nasty word duplicate then. I recall a lot of other issues that might be involved. Have you disabled repositories, started a btrfs balance lately, got enough space left on the device?

lakutalo ( 2017-11-21 09:02:30 +0300 )edit

Balance apparently is not needed:

[root@Sailfish nemo]# btrfs-balancer allocation

Used: 7559142440 bytes
Allocated: 51 %

No balancing required. 51 % allocated.

I have a same kind of problem. I downloaded the new OS version Kymijoki and started the installation. After pressing OK to request of restarting the phone, it started to reboot but after a while it stopped, screen went black and it rebooted again. This seems to continue forever. What shall I do? I'm just an ordinary Jolla user without 'hacking' skills. The phone is dead e.g. I cannot use it because it won't start up.

You mean you are in a bootloop or you are able to start the phone but not able to make the upgrade?

cocof2001 ( 2017-11-22 08:11:27 +0300 )edit

Yes, that is the link that must be read for bootloops and also this one: https://together.jolla.com/question/22079/howto-all-computer-users-recover-or-reset-a-device-that-is-stuck-in-boot-loop/?sort=votes&page=1

cocof2001 ( 2017-11-22 08:51:14 +0300 )edit

I had no other choice than restore the factory settings; other options didn't work. So a long way back to the old days of Sailfish OS.

Vesart ( 2017-11-22 10:57:12 +0300 )edit

Good to know it worked. If you have time look at this thread to understand how you can make a full backup with dd. This can save your phone even when restore to factory settings will not work.

Well since no one helped and I was stuck without internet (mobile or wifi) I had to go the long way: Factory Reset -> 5 upgrades in a row.

PS BTRFS is not that well known I guess and the methods of recovering probably not that good (for me at least).
