Sound notification with plugged in headphones [duplicate]

To rep: Connect your headphones and play some music. Receive an email. The music pauses but the notification sound comes from the speaker and from the headphones. I have in ear headphones and i couldn't hear the sound from the speaker the first time it happened.

Ideally the sound would play on both external speakers and headphones for the cases you have plugged in Headphones but are not in your ears. Or make it configurable.
