While it seems really early for something like this its good to start submitting ideas early so that the designers can think about it.

So what features do you want for the next Jolla Phone? Make sure to look through the previous answers and vote accordingly

The first thing i'd like is to make the bezels all around the screen smaller. As small as possible in fact. This will probably make it a one-hand-device for more people. I have normal hands (i think i am in the 50th percentile) and it feels a bit big in the hand.

No need for a bigger screen. 720p would be good but even at qHD it looks really nice.

If possible move the headphone jack on the bottom of the device.

Also i wouldn't mind if it was a bit lighter.

Possibility of screw attached metallic TOH for a more sturdy feel along with easily replaceable plastic ones for people who like to change them easily would be a great addition.

USB type C (the reversible one) is something jolla must consider.

even at qHD Much as I like my Jolla, I have to disagree. It is pretty clear that the interface was a higher resolution - for example the skinny font used on the launcher pages is often blurry on qHD.

Also I suspect that the choice of SoC forced on Jolla when ST-Ericsson decided to stop manufacturing or supplying the original choice of SoC is the reason behind the low-end display (the maximum resolution the current SoC supports is qHD). A higher specced SoC should mean we can get a better screen.

A bezel is needed to hold the phone comfortably and safely in one hand without accidentally touching the screen with some flesh of the hand. A thinner bezel wouldn't turn out good, I suppose. The thinner the bezel the more slippery the phone feels, because you have less place to hold it.

Unspectacular CPU and graphics chip are OK! Lower energy consumption is more important than raw processing power for a mobile phone.

The Jolla does not have a high end CPU but it runs very smoothly (thanks to SailFish). Even Android emulation is great. So that was an excellent choice! I personally prefer battery life over top CPU benchmarks anytime.

Of course, the next phone from Jolla should have a CPU upgrade, but it need not be the beast that wins all performance tests. But the phone as a whole should be on top of all fluidity rankings for the UI - if such tests would exist :-)

Having a cutting edge SoC is the best thing possible for both performance and power draw. Newer generations are more efficient and generally consume less power in non-persistent performance related tasks (i.e. non-gaming). Next year's high end chips will be on a smaller production node and using ARM's new design parameters to achieve very significant improvements in performance and energy efficiency.

I agree, raw power must be put second to battery life! Saifish works smoothly on lower hardware specs anyway.

My best config:

The same dimensions (maybe larger screen size)
720p OLED screen with transleflective layer (or something similar to Nokia ClearBlack Display)
Decent audio chip (!) - Wolfson (recently bought by Cirrus Logic) brings best solutions in mobile audio
FM radio
Improved better camera with IOS (!) (maybe PureView techology; high quality sensor like Isocell from Samsung or the same like build in Sony Xperia Z3)
Larger battery (at least 2600 mAh if 720p screen resolution applied)
Bluetooth LE
Headphone jack on the bottom would be nice to see
Third party battery - it could make additional power acquiring more accessible

you are asking for a larger battery with a reason that needs less battery, you are asking for things already there (BT LE, did you mean BT 4+?), you cannot go larger screen size with keeping the phone dimensions, you need to have a bezel to be able to hold the phone without touching the screen...

First: There is no mention about LE feature in bluetooth section at gsmarena overview, instead e.g. SGS5... Second: You say I wish about misinterpreted features - I say YES! Jolla have lack of energy when is coming about talk time - you can see the very bottom position in comparison to its competitors (jollausers battery review)... though this is most important functionality when it comes about mobile phone! And the last one: It is certainly possible to give us a larger screen in the same frame (DOT). You can see LG G2 bezel size which not the most recent model. Maybe this successfully could show you how thin bezel is possible to be but this is just example.

Don't take issue with me, its just my opinion, you can write your own remarks at suggestions thread.

Yes, let's be not offended by each other's opinion. Sorry about the BT LE confusion, I thought it is integrated with the SoC but not active on the software side but indeed the HW seems missing - just like an NFC antenna. But, the lack of BT LE hardware in Jolla is not the issue, I just checked my BT devices - I have like 6 BT active devices and only one does have a low energy powersaving mode but I doubt it does BT LE. For the screen size - other phones do not have an edge gesture based UI, even now I trigger events on the edges (left/right), for sure you could change the Y width (top to bottom) to some extend. For your desire for a larger battery, compared to android devices I am quiet happy with what we got, if the display gets replaced with an OLED you will get even more out of it, there is no need for more battery, there is need for lower consumption.

I'll consider to buy a smartband in future so I mentioned about LE feature. Now, I don't have any LE supporting device... But next gen Jolla is the future plan so it is highly probable it would be neccessary (notice in the future wearable devices market will be getting bigger). Also as you mentioned it could be built in a SoC so it won't generate a perceived cost, on the contrary I don't want a dedicated chip (like Apple is applying) because it is more expensive. Also if I would like to monitor my sleep - smartphone built in sensors are not so accurate like a standalone device so my need of having BT LE has double benefits for me.

Your argument about screen may be implicated that you understood me wrong. I see that theres not enough space to increase display to 5 inches ;) but just a little like competition do for years. Edge based UI it not a obstacle to applying bigger screen. E.g. try to understand that LCD panel is not connected (beyond phisical connection) with digitizer these are part of screen so dimensions of LCD panel can be increased with no influence or complications to UI and also UX after corrective surgeries - thats my opinion.

Theres a smartphones unwritten law: Dear battery was never too much :) I added a remark about battery.

I like the Other Half idea very much in Jolla and IMHO this OH idea could be developed further in next device. As currently seen in various prototypes being developed for Jolla, OH has proven to have a lot of potential to enhance phone usability. However it seems that currently the i2c has some technical limitations and thus makes it harder to develop "more technically advanced" TOH:s. I don't know how it could be "upgraded" later but I think the OH idea should also be used in next Jolla device too.

For example a TOH with similarly performing camera as seen in Nokia Lumia 1020 or even better would be indeed something to see. :)

I was imagining something along the sides of 3 jolla series one smaller than the current one as today's and one larger.

Having standardised sizes would allow new first and second halves that are compatible with each other and at least to me that sounds very interesting. Especially part where it's smaller jolla and physical qwerty keyboard for the other half or maybe high end sound output other half ;)

I would leave more space for the TOH. This way TOH developers will be able to build TOHs that are sophisticated and do not add to the device thickness.

I would still love to see a N950-like design (including the keyboard), maybe a little bit smaller than the current jolla phone and smaller bezel. The TOH-concept is nice, but what about a faster interface (like usb for example) which enables the use of standard components (like dvb-t receivers, additional radio for second sim card, even a usb graphic card.. :) ) in self-made other halfes.

What I miss most compared to my previous phone (Nokia N8):

Camera Button (which will start the camera app and let me pre-focus)
USB Host mode (might be more usable with the new c-type USB 3 interface)
FM-Transceiver
Video out

Oh well, and of course the usual stuff like more memory and cpu/gpu power would be nice :) I also wouldn't mind a dual sim option

Only have two wishes for next hardware revision:

* hdmi output
* hardware keyboard

A incremental cpu, memory, storage upgrade is expected just to stay somewhat relevant in the hardware race. Maybe get into bed with Intel for their upgraded mobile SoC.

Software side:

* Equalizer in the Media app
* Improved browser: HTTP/Socks proxy support

CAMERA LENS COVER that comes standard on TOH.

Using my jolla for the past 6 months (and using it A LOT) got me to the conclusion that a camera lens cover is absolutely necessary. Not only the polariser layer of the camera lens completely wore off giving a very blurry image at some point (until removing it completely) but also the lens always gets covered with dust or fingerprints and has to be cleaned before use.

Here are several advantages of such a cover:

Open the camera app automatically when sliding the cover
Always clean and scratch-free camera lens
Privacy enhanced when not using the camera (I knowJolla is a secure phone but never know...)

My camera is also tottaly scratched - no more normal pictures possible. Have to send my Jolla to repair, but don't want to switch on my old phone for several weeks.

My since fiction Jolla 2 :) - high quality OLED display - sapphire coated front display - 13Mp primary camera - sapphire coated primary camera - 5Mp secondary camera - stereo speakers - full metal body - better organized TOH connector - a battery that is "standard", easy replaceable and upgradable - wireless charger - Voice over LTE - more sensors: barometer,UV, heart rate, SpO2 - USB 3.0 - more GNSS: Beidou, Galileo - FM RX/TX radio - infrared port for IR applications - IP67 certified - dust and water resistant - an OS that is stable and secure

I do not care how many processor or video cores and ram has, as long the interface is fluid and phone is able to offer a good multitasking experience.

I just went looking for barometer to vote. We can always dream on but @tvicol seems to nailed quite a few good points there. I agree about this:

I could use a nice smaller IP67 etc. certified device with some more sensors such as the barometer. Give me downright altimeter to ~1 sec. accuracy and it's a deal.

I am satisfied with the current Jolla's dimensions and design. I would like improve this:

DISPLAY: 720p and better screen visibility in bright environments ... HD is simply the minimum standard for modern smartphone. Working with current display is a very difficult on sunlight.

CAMERA: I would like see as least the same camera as on N8 ... I think it's NOT just about MPx. Jolla needs simply better lens, chip and flash also. For big problem I found the current location of the lens. It must be better protected against mechanical damage (any frame or slightly hidden).

USB: I prefer the location of the connector on the bottom of the phone ... To facilitate the connection for more mobile in-car holders/in-car chargers.

EDIT 08/Sep/14: BATT: Better battery is definitely needed. IMHO it is not about the capacity only. The current one overheats very often. When charged in the car holder - placed behind the front window then using a navi is simply mission impossible. :(

for me first jolla is nice but missed some important components: an transreflecting LCD for sun shine, a good audio speaker more powerfull, a real NFC, a FM transmitter and a minimum of 32Gb internal memory. With these should be perfect phone!
