Usually instructions about using developer mode mention, that you need to reboot the phone after setting the mode on.

I get always the terminal visible in the app list without any reboot. And I have succesfully used the terminal also without rebooting.

So, is it really needed, and when ?

In order to start sshd (if you enable remote access via ssh) you need to reboot the device, afai remember that's the only reason.

EDIT 27th Jan 2014:
I was wrong, (I just flashed a device new, and need developer mode). So sshd is up right after enabling ssh remote access and setting a password, no reboot needed. I could connect via wlan. But I can't connect through usb network, since when I plug in via usb connector, it does not offer me the developer mode. Also in settings the option for always use developer mode is missing. After a reboot, I have these options available. So currently reboot is needed so usb_moded takes new config into use and connections over usb-net are possible.

Reboot just to start sshd service? That doesn't seem right to me. I didn't get developer mode option after I connected cable to pc. It was present after reboot. Maybe that's the reason.

Remote access meaning from PC? If I use the dev mode in the phone itself, then I wouldn't need to reboot?

If someone could verify, that the reboot is only needed for remote access (using terminal from PC?), then this answer could be accepted.

And then the instructions could be more specific mentioning this...

It does not reboot automatically after enabling developer mode and I never rebooted after enabling it. Still, everything was working fine, including SSH access. So, no reboot needed, obviously. Maybe the text displayed is a bit outdated?
