Since i can remember downloading an update to the OS has been a slow process. I am quite sure its neither my internet/wifi nor the phone itself.

Is it just that the servers get hammered or something that i might need to look into?

It has been slow since day one with original Jolla phone in 2013. It isn't using the connection all the time (activity led on my router doesn't blink), so it's not the actual bottleneck; Sailfish is busy doing something else then...?

Apparently it's significantly faster via command line. It seams that the gui takes it's time so as not to hog the full network bandwidth of the device.

From what I've seen Jolla uses delta RPM packages for updating. This reduces the size of the downloads, but requires quite a bit of processing on-device. It still might be a slow download, but on JP1 it seemed it was the delta rpm which was the real bottleneck. While the xperia's are faster, they are not really that fast, so it still is a bottleneck.

Noticed the device was a bit warm. Will look into whats happening with the processing on the next update.
