I am trying to install Sailfish on a new Xperia XA2 Ultra, as per Jolla website. With phone connected to PC, blue light on, Windows 10 cmd window: fastboot -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0x(...unlock code...) ..(with correct unlock code)..When I press enter, I get: < waiting for any device > ..indefinitely. No error messages.

Using Windows Powershell (as per Jolla), I did get error - the objection was to all of the 16-character unlock code: "The term '...unlock code...' is not recognised.."

Yes sa0114adb.inf installed as driver, Yes Device Manager shows "Sony sa0114 ADB Interface Driver", though with yellow warning triangle (as warned about in Jolla instructions), Yes the XA2 has Android 8.0.0 , not 9. No I have not, yet, found existing answer on this Jolla forum.

From the internet "adb" in general, to fastboot an Android phone, there is advice to use a different driver, but sa0114adb.inf is the only Sailfish one for XA2 Ultra. All other USB devices disconnected, no change.

So I seem to have run out of variables to apply to this fastboot. Please, can anyone help? ..

My question too, what do you get with 'fastboot devices' as command? And did you enable developer mode and triggered in Android?

Running the command: fastboot devices results in a blank line, & just a normal cursor prompt in the next line, no error messages but no information displayed.

In PowerShell, ./fastboot.exe devices just results in a carriage return.

(1) 'fastboot devices' done as reported above.

(2) On phone (H3213), all of the Jolla instructions have been applied: Developer options ("You are now a developer"), USB debugging.

(3) Also from other forums:

(3.1) Sony driver sa0114adb.inf installed, checked, unistalled, re-installed. Allways a yellow warning triangle on Device Manager Sony sa0114 \ Sony sa0114 ADB Interface Driver .

(3.2) Alleged xperia XA2 Ultra driver (though not on Sony website) android_winusb.inf also tried. Still < waiting for any device >.

(3.3) 2 different independently verified USB data cables used.

(3.4) adb kill-server adb start-server done, no change.

(3.5) Disable driver signature verification - done via shift-left-click on Windows re-start - no change.

(3.6) Sony Xperia XA2 Ultra single SIM "Companion software" on PC played with - does see phone when switched on, but not a rooting tool. Uninstalled.

(3.7) Unplug all other USB devices - no change.

(3.8) Disable anti-virus & firewall - no change.

(3.9) "Turn it off & on again" - lots, on PC & phone, no change.

Running Android SDK Platform Tools: adb devices - results in:

adb server version (32)doesn't match this client (41); killing...

  • daemon started successfully

List of devices attached <empty line="">.</empty>

Jolla notes XA2 Ultra driver is not yet available on Sony website, & instructions point to "Sony Xperia X - not the XA2 - and that is the correct driver" sa0114adb.inf , Perhaps this X driver does not work on XA2. A question for Jolla. Problem still unsolved.

If fastboot devices does not show a hex number, your phone is not being detected. Does your phone have a blue notification LED on when you are trying this? You did not explicitly say that you plugged the USB cable in the phone while holding the volume up key with the phone switched off; did you do this?

Mon 15th July 12:05hrs status: Sailfish successfully installed on XA2 Ultra. 1) Driver which worked was android_winusb.inf , installed from Device Manager by right clicking on -Other devices\android & then following sequence described well in http://visualgdb.com/KB/usbdebug-manual/ . 2) I had forgot to put file SW_binaries_for_Xperia_Android_8.1.6.4_r1_v16_nile in same directory as Sailfish OS. With this file put there, flash-on-windows.bat ran OK. 3) Quite a lot of time spent unsuccessfully trying to use sa0114adb.inf . android_winusb.inf worked for me. 4) My XA2 now has Sailfish working. 5) Looks good so far.
