Some clarifications on SFOS install on Xperia XC [answered]
Hi everybody! I'd like to switch to an Xperia X compact (XC) with sailfish, but I'd like to know more about the installation process before even buying (because I'm a newby of SFX lol):
- Which exact model of XC is needed? Is XC just the model F5321? Should it be unlocked or not? Android version before unlocking?
- I know I have to purchase a full SFX licence, then apply the patch from @g7 to it... then, shall I begin the normal SFX installation process provided by Jolla with that patched file?
Theese points still are not clear to me, thanks to those that will answer ;)
Model is just F5321. Sony supports unlocking this device, and you get an unlocking code for it from their specific unlocking site.
Same rules apply as for Xperia X regarding Android versions (meaning here I don't remember the exact version but I assume the latest your phone updates to should be ok).
I don't think you need to buy SFX license until you want to enable android support. You can do this at any time after SFOS has been installed. Just trial version image should do.
When you've patched the image following instructions at https://github.com/g7/sailfishx-patcher-f5321 you simply flash the patched image like it was a normal SFOS image.
I'd also try creating that patched SFOS image first before getting the device. Getting Vagrant with patching environment running on Fedora was the hardest part for me...
