Sony unveiled the new release of the Xperia 10

With OLED and a 3.5mm audio jack :)

https://presscentre.sony.eu/pressreleases/xperia-10-ii-brings-water-resistance-and-sonys-21-9-ultimate-entertainment-experience-to-its-super-mid-range-2974997

My Jolla 1 is old and this new device seems the best smartphone to remplace it.

But does Jolla team do you will official support it ?

edit: to change link to official press release (less tracker in this website..)

Thanks

Good phone, at last a decent successor for the Xperia X. I expect support one year after Xperia 10, i. e. end 2020.

At 157 x 69 x 8.2mm is as close to the j1 as a truck to the average hatchback. If you want something similar to the j1 your only choice is the xz2c but that has no official support.

Personally I prefer the Xperia 1 II.

@manu007 It's a 1200 EUR phone, of course it's better.

Jolla could start working on the Xperia 10 II as soon as Sony adds it to the open devices program. The transition from XA2 to 10 was relatively convenient as these devices share the same chipset (Snapdragon 630). Hovewer the 10 II will feature a Snapdragon 665 Chipset. Only Jolla can tell how much effort the adaption of the software takes. So for the beginning, if anything, you will get a "no comment yet" from Jolla staff ;) You could ask in the next community meeting. +1, except that the Xperias XA2-H4493 and 10 Plus (all models) use an SDM660, which is a direct predecessor of the SDM665.

@olf sounds good. Let's watch out for open position "ultra wide angle camera expert" at Jolla ;)

Yes let's bring it on, but still the Xperia 10 plus has got annoying bugs and battery drain (fixed in 3G mode) ; i'll buy a Xperia 10 II as soon as SFOS is abvailable for it!!!

Adding the Xperia 10 II to the open devices program is not sufficient. As far as I know there is no port today for Xperia 1 and Xperia 5 because these devices are running Kernel 4.14 (android 10) and not android 9. But there are part of the open devices program. Xperia 10 II will likely be only available with android 10. A port of Sailfish for android 10 devices is first needed.

This could be successor of Xperia X! I don't want any of the current Sailfish compatible Sony devices but this is interesting device. IP protected, ok specs, too big but they all are nowadays.

I consider buying this phone when it arrives to stores. We see if I can wait till it has SFOS capability or I switch back to Android.

T'ain't too big. Them there midget phones with 3" screens ain't a-comin' back, 'cause it ain't what folks want. Deal with it, boy.

Oh dear! Did I hurt your feelings by stating by opinion. That's what sometimes happens in this world. Get used to it.

Who said anything about hurt feelings? You're obviously not dealing very well with being told your opinion ain't popular. I told you to deal with it, boy.

I have an XA2 at the moment, if 10 II gets SFOS support, that would be my next device too..

Received my new Xperia!

Here is a picture for size comparison: Jolla Phone, Xperia X and Xperia 10 II: image description

Width of these devices are almost the same but heights are growing.

It is going to take time to get used to Xperia 10 II tall shape but it seems to have some gestures that help navigating. It also has one-hand mode to reduce the size of the screen (not physical screen though). These at least in Andr*id.

Thanks to the one hand mode, I can use the phone without problems. If Sailfish OS is officially released on Xperia 10 II, hope some kind of that one-hand mode is there

Jolla should rather try to concentrate not only on an XXL phone like the X10 or the XA2 Plus but also on a "normal"-sized successor for the X/XA2. Not everyone needs/wants a fancy 21:9 surfboard in his pocket....

I agree with you

I really prefer to have a new phone with a 5' screen OLED and 3.5mm audio jack

But today nobody sold this phone

I don't agree, and am downvoting this request.

I insist...."normal"-sized successor is a MUST. Jolla is already supporting 4 different Xperia devices, and the newer the device that is supported, the bigger it is X < XA2 Plus < X10. So, dear Bocephus, argument better when downvoting. Dear Jolla, it can't be that complicated. Something N9-ish would be awesome :-)

lupastro ( 2020-06-13 09:47:10 +0300 )edit

@lupastro I don't see arguments anywhere here, just opinions. Downvote from me as well.

Spark ( 2020-06-16 14:12:54 +0300 )edit

@Spark: Woooooow, that a nice "argument" you provide. You do not like my opinion about the X10 surfboard and so you downvote. You want arguments against it? Here you go: 1- unconfortable for people with small hands, 2- unconfortable to carry the phone in the pockets of normal trousers. I know it's hard to believe, but there are people who do not want to buy an extra bag for the phone and like to carry it in the trouser pockets, 3- unconfortable screen ratio, which is optimized for gaming and movies and not for business purposes (email, e.g.), 4- higher damage risk due to the "bending" of the screen. Are these arguments argumentative enough?

#PinePhone & Sony Xperia 10 II are potential candidates, but currently plans cannot be confirmed.

The new device may have the name of an already supported device with a "2" tacked on at the end, but it's a brand new device so there's obviously going to be a whole lot of work in getting it to work. The new SoC may have a lot in common with the SoC on the older Xperia 10 Plus (same CPU setup and wireless modem), but there are still differences that may require a whole bunch of adaptation work on Jolla's part.

From what I can tell the DSP is a newer version (Hexagon 686 versus 680), so is the image signal processor for the camera (Spectra 165 versus 160) and the GPU is wholly new (Adreno 610 versus 509) based a new architecture.
