I'd welcome a system wide equalizer. People use various headphones and prefer different sound settings. Would be great if we had an official, well working equalizer. No I must use Android players because I can use eq-apps.

EDIT: As an intermediate solution, is there a possibility to tweak settings by editing a text file or the like?

Great idea. This should naturally also control the volume of Android apps, and would help with the problem of sound vanishing for Android apps.

AFAIK pulseaudio has a build in equalizer. So you only need a gui for it probably.

@Maettu you have to try to get many people to vote for this. The questions with the most votes are most likely to get attention from Jolla earlier - but they also sometimes fix things that don't have a lot of votes because they've had their eye on it anyway. And sometimes top-voted issues just take longer then the next update (system wide copy-paste, caldav...)

Jolla uses PulseAudio which comes with a systemwide equalizer plugin. But in jolla they dumped this plugin probably because it's not an utterly wanted feature. I tried to compiled the plugin myself but at last I had to give up cuz it maybe too complicated and I'm don't know much about cross-compiling. However if this plugin is ready in the next update I can make an equalizer app in 30mins I'm not kidding.

Btw jolla is planning to update to PulseAudio 6.0(currently 5.0), so hopefully they can compile this plugin and send out the update soon this year.

You can ask in the dev mailing about possibly enabling the eq plugin. You will probably get a better answer.

If you are able to push this through...instant hero status guaranteed ;-)

Haha I'll try to make it happen and maybe more votes can help draw jolla's attention😃

As an extension to this request I would like to have not only volume controls for each channel but also persistent settings for each output device.

Perfect would be selection on output device per channel. This way you could e.g. divert system sounds to phone speaker while music is sent to the bluetooth device, as requested here.

For the time being here is a thread containing info for a possible step towards a manual solution: https://together.jolla.com/question/82958/audio-control-in-sailfish-setting-volume-via-cmd-line/

The standard PulseAudio equalizer plugin supports profile, so the feature you are talking about can be done with just a few trick. Hope this will cheer you up:)

It does. :) And according to MikErk's post it seems quite reachable already.

SailfishOS.org Roadmap shows PulseAudio 6.0 is implemented and awaiting release. Anyone willing to tell us whether the PA Equaliser was compiled in or not?
