Email client not showing Japanese text

I had received an email in Japanese. For some reason the preview text, in the list of emails in the inbox, shows Japanese correctly, but when opening the email to view the whole message it doesn't show correctly. Instead it shows a lot of question-mark-diamonds and adds some other nonsense, as if it doesn't use the correct encoding.

I have a similar but different problem.

I can receive japanese emails without problem in the preview text or in the message view. But when I send emails in japanese from the phone, the preview text in the Sent folder is garbled.

That is odd.. I wonder why you see Japanese text correctly in the message view and I don't. Hmm perhaps some underlying encoding between server and client not matching or mishandled?

You can see all Japanese scripts (Kanji+hiragana+katakana) correctly in the message view, right?

Yes I can read all types of japanese characters. I have no problem receiving utf-8 and iso-2022-jp encoded emails. When sending, it seems it sends it in utf-8 so I have no clue as to why the preview shows garbled characters.
