There's a bug here; something is not cleaning up after itself and therefore wasting storage space and inodes. Please fix? :)

[update3] The first theory was this has to do with gPodder. This has been disconfirmed, and now it looks like the media app is the culprit. Can we please have more confirmations?

I don't have any files of this kind on my Jolla. Maybe there is an app creating those files

I have these kind of files, i think they are created and left there by the media application

@corsarium: Are you using gPodder?

You can delete all of them (.null) and delete them from gallery (music album covers). When you start your music player, then you have same problem again :). I have musics in to the SD card, if that matter..

This is a bug in tracker with mp3 files having something fishy in metadata/album-art.

This will be fixed in tracker included in March 2014 update, so after that when you remove the temporary files they won't get recreated. However the music files need to get reindexed by tracker. The manual way is to run :

tracker-control -f <full path to the file>
