Hi, I'm Carsten Munk, Chief Research Engineer at Jolla. Let's try to grow the skunkworks of Jolla and SailfishOS together. Use the tag 'skunkworks' for your ideas and thoughts. Rule #1 of skunkworks: stick to something that is not short term (rest of site is good for that), but is possible 6 months from now or beyond that.

I believe that the best research department a mobile OS can have is a worldwide community of passionate contributors and users. Let's prove this theory right.

I'd prefer direct wifi for smart-TVs (samsung-link) and MHL for everything else.

PlayTo all formats to anything by any support communication (bluetooth, WiFi, WiDi, AirPlay, MiraCast, NFC, etc..) replace Android by SailfishOS on Cubox-i from SolidRun i.MX 6 Series Processor (Arm9 Cortex A9) So i have SD card with ready to use SailfishOS

Oh yes! I already use an Android XBMC remote app on my Jolla phone to interact with my XBMC connected TV.

Yes, but xbmc remote is only remote. What I miss is Airplay stylish streaming a la Google Chromecast or Miracast

Maybe my remote control app can be used to control this thing: http://qremote.org/ Its free, open source and cross-platform. The client works besides SailfishOS on Android, iOS, BlackBerry, Tizen, ... with the same look and feel. Would be great if we could add media sharing features to it.

Is the solution not "just" to port XBMC to jolla that way you have the setup to steam everything the "xbmc" way. It work well on arm check "Minix" media device

I'd imagine to have videochat/conference support, using the Jolla as a camera and displaying the other chat buddies on the TV. Additionally, with some room for a dashboard, notes, etc. So that you could share content from your phone and/or maybe draw something on the phone. Additional bluetooth devices for input, mouse, keyboard, etc. Maybe use your attached wearable/smartwatch as some kind of kill switch for very intimate videochats, in case somebody disturbs you by accident. ;)

This might become even more interesting in combination with the tablet.

For me it depends on the totality of the app ecosphere of the stick. If the Jolla phone would have tons of native apps easily displaying any content I want I would prefer to have the stick only display that content (like google does with Chromecast). It saves me from thinking a lot. But this is really dependent on the quality and availability of apps. Recently our dutch broadcaster started supporting Chromecast, making my chromecast a lot more useful. I now not anymore grab my laptop to send a Chrome tab to TV but can also grab an Android device. I would really like to do this with my Jolla phone.

More interesting though I would find compatibility with the Firefox https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/matchstick/matchstick-the-streaming-stick-built-on-firefox-os. I would love to have Jolla apps working with stuff like the matchstick. Or at least a compatible protocol. Otherwise I'll end up switching sticks, and run out of HDMI ports on my TV.
