Somewhat related to this:

https://together.jolla.com/question/49390/emails-do-not-always-get-posted-from-outbox/

Having discovered emails sitting in Outbox, having not been sent, there is no way to retry sending them. When viewing an email the only options are to reply or forward the email, which of course is not appropriate for something just sitting in Outbox that you wish to send.

One should not normally, of course, have to do this manually. But sometimes abnormal things happen.

I fully agree with the submenu that should display, "resend" ; but I discovered recently that pulling the menu and selecting "refresh" or "update" (don't know the label in English) indeed try to resend the failed messages.

There is a possibility to resend: You can browse into the folder named "Outbox" and try to refresh it. However, in most cases mails get stuck there only if there's a problem in the mail settings (e.g. wrong server/port/security/credentials).

Once I had all the right settings, but the mail was still stuck in the Outbox. Workaround: I had to remove the account and set it up again with the same settings. This was a general email account.

Once with very early version, back in 2013, I run into the same problem after deleting an email account. After deleting, this account was still left as the default sending box and I could only send mail directly from the email app.

Hope these helped :)

I had this same problem. For some reason email app tried to send the email from my general email account, even if my default sending address is gmail, and I tried to reply to email that was received to gmail. Still I don't know why emails didn't go through because earlier those settings have worked and same server settings work on my laptop. Only way to be able to send emails again was to remove the general email account. After that I se synced my gmail account, and the email was sent.

This happens because Google wants to take over your e-mail service; in other words you must be using your Android or smartphone's e-mail app instead of Google's GMAIL App. There are two fixes to this problem, first is to download Goggle's GMAIL App and use that for email communication; and second is to ask google to allow 'less secure' apps i.e. non-google to access your e-mails (i know!) Here are the steps for the second option:

Allowing less secure apps to access your account

Google may block sign-in attempts from some apps or devices that do not use modern security standards. Since these apps and devices are easier to break into, blocking them helps keep your account safe.

Some examples of apps that do not support the latest security standards include:

The Mail app on your iPhone or iPad with iOS 6 or below The Mail app on your Windows phone preceding the 8.1 release Some Desktop mail clients like Microsoft Outlook and Mozilla Thunderbird Change account access for less secure apps To help keep Google Apps users' accounts secure, we may block less secure apps from accessing Google Apps accounts. As a Google Apps user, you will see a "Password incorrect" error when trying to sign in. If this is the case, you have two options:

Option 1: Upgrade to a more secure app that uses the most up to date security measures. All Google products, like Gmail, use the latest security measures. Option 2: Change your settings to allow less secure apps to access your account. We don't recommend this option because it might make it easier for someone to break into your account. If you want to allow access anyway, follow these steps: Go to the "Less secure apps" section in My Account. Next to "Access for less secure apps," select Turn on. (Note to Google Apps users: This setting is hidden if your administrator has locked less secure app account access.) If you still can't sign in to your account, the "password incorrect" error might be caused by a different reason.

The op doesn't mention using gmail, and the problem isn't necessarily related to it - you can get messages stuck in outbox with other services too...

The easiest way I found of re-sending an email from Outbox is... move it to Drafts first. Then go to Drafts and open the email. You can then continue editing it if you like or just send it again.
