First of all: this question might seem like a duplicate of a similarly named question, but as far as the problem description seems to go, this issue seems different, and as for the solution - that's not working for me.

So then...

I'm running version 1.0.8 of Sailfish OS, so all android apps have their own active covers. I'm using a messaging app (threema) which works fine in general. When the app is in foreground (fullscreen mode) and the screen is on, all notification sounds play nicely. As soon as the app is "backgrounded" or the screen goes off, the sounds seems to be muted. I still receive notifications over the notification view (slide up from the bottom), but there are no sounds playing. So I'm regularly missing IMs, except if I check every n seconds... The problem is not solved by installing any ringtone apps (tried several) and selecting a different notification tone than "default" (which is the current setting).

This issue exists since 1.0.6 (=from the first moment I got my phone), so basically android notification sounds never worked. Any suggestions why this happens?

Thanks in advance.

Hi all

Just noticed, that then I try setting a notification tone, the media picker in aliendalvik only allows "Default" and "Silent". The folder /opt/alien/system/media/audio/notifications contains a set of default ogg files and an mp3 file, I copied into the folder in the hopes, it would show up in the media picker list (it didn't - none of the files show up in the media picker).

This might cause why no notifications are played when an android app is "backgrounded", as there is no notification tone selected (i guess, then notifications are silent?).

Maybe this is a permission problem? The path (ie each folder in the path) is owned by root, but is rwx for all. The ogg files are root:root, and r for all. The mp3 file is owned by media_rw:media_rw (playing around) and r for all. If it is a permission problem: why's that? It was like this from the beginning.

Any suggestions?

I've got the same problem with Wechat. When I receive a Wechat message, my phone vibrates but no notification tone. For Skype, at least I can hear the typical Skype message sound. Also, it would be great to have the LED blinking when receiving notifications from Android IM apps.

Same problem with line and telegram, no sounds even vibration, and no notification unless the app goes foreground. But for example, when turning on the phone and there is not app open,i have received line official messages with tone and vibration. Hopping to solve this, because i use these apps too much.

Actually I am not 100 % sure but I think it works for me. I have installed zedge and downloaded a nice notification that I use in Threema. I am quite sure it also works when the display is off.
Since the last update I think I even get an notification when the app is not running and I do not have Google Services installed.

FloR707's solution works for Wechat!

SailfishOS 2 / AlienDalvik / Lipstick uses a whitelist (/usr/share/lipstick/androidnotificationpriorities) for notifications from Android apps.

See this answer for how to add K9-Mail, Conversations, Threema, TextSecure and other apps to it: https://together.jolla.com/question/109180/feature-request-add-missing-apps-to-the-chat-application-list/?sort=votes

Older topic, but...

You could give the app Android notifications a try. It is created by Andrey (coderus) and available on https://openrepos.net/content/coderus/android-notifications

This application seems to be unnecessary with SailfishOS 2, as SFOS2 has everything in place and working with regard to notifications from Android apps. It may even disturb SFOS2's built-in notification mechanism for Android apps.

For some Android apps (as of SailfishOS 2.0: e.g. K9-Mail, Conversations, Threema, TextSecure) a notifier entry is missing, which can be easily added, see https://together.jolla.com/question/109180/feature-request-add-missing-a...
