Not able to answer a Google Hangout videocall

Well, I am since I installed the Hangouts app from Google Play.. but when I have an incoming call I do not get any visual notifications about it. I usually get a ring tone, sometime even nothing.. I have to open the Hangouts app, then click on the one who is calling me and manually join the conversation.

Ideally a visual notification with a phone icon or something should show as with a normal call.. but it doesn't. I just get a ring tone.

Is there any known fix for this? I am guessing it's either me who doing something wrong or that it is hangouts and not talk that are used.

I hope you are not that much preferring Hangout, as they are cancelling it soon. There are alternatives out there that are open source and work as well or better as Hangout. Probably the best to switch to one of those.

Hangout app runs in Android comptability layer. While those Android apps often work very well, notifications don't pop up in Sailfish OS. Exception: You have an Android application already open (in multitasking view). I don't use hangout but have to use Skype from time to time. If I want to be reachable, I have to run Skype in multitasking view - as soon as someone calls it usually rings, vibrates and the call-window shows up. I also get Skype notifications in Notification-view (swipe up).

Another problem is that you need headphones (optional with microphone) to make calls through Android apps. Otherwise you will hear the other person on loud speakers (see here: https://together.jolla.com/question/13330/feature-request-separate-earphone-speaker-phone-sound-in-android-apps-voip-skype-etc/). If you only do video calls, that maybe won't bother you.

So you don't do anything wrong - it is a limitation of the Android emulation.

Thanks for the answer. I suspected as much... especially after I found that other thread. Hangouts have the functionality in-app to change speaker and camera... so not an issue for me. My issue is that I don't use the app very often and therefor might miss a call.
