I miss a section in this forum: Dummies, or more nicely said, "normal user" like me are a bit overwhelmed in this forum. I am sure, the Jolla Team is very enthusiastic about technology and they want to proof the world, that things can be different. (*)
Even if they get more complicated.
Examples of dummy questions:
- Why do i need to give instructions ton non-jolla users, how to pick up a phone call ? (My wife gets nervous every time, she has to use my phone, and then, me too ;-)
- Why dont i get an event- alarm in my google-calender
- Why cant i set up colors by myself; A lot of messages i cant read, because the contrast is to low, like light blue on lesser light blue. (i am very old, you now)

(* thats the main reason, i bought this phone)

exactly what till said :D Answering phone calls is pretty easy. There are highlighted color bars on the top and the bottom of the phone. Put your finger somewhere in the middle of the phone and pull down, then there is in the pully menu "answer call" or something like that. Even when you tap on the display it tells you what to do - my wife has same problems with is e.g. killing my alarm in the morning. I just told her to pull up in this situation - this is for cancelling the alarm totally analogous to the phone call. You can only do a color switch by changing your ambience. Take a Photo in the gallery which is non blue, e.g. the Dom of Cologne, then all colors switch to the main color of the photo which in this case could be brown. When selected the photo use the pully menu to create an ambience. There are really no stupid questions.

Somewhere around there is a video did by an indian guy on some conference I dont remember right now. The video is 30 Mins long and the Indian guy is asking some Jolla member how things work with it. The quality is not the best but for me it was the best introduction to the phone I ever saw, even better than the official ones, because the Indian asked almost all questions which arise when u start with the phone and the Jolla guy answers and shows things sometimes more than once.

@arbyter: I'm very sorry that I was trying to be helpful and thereby completely missed your point. You know how it is... Sometimes your focus is so much on being constructive that you just don't understand what it's all about. I'll see if I can delete or replace my original answer and undo the tagging mess that I caused.

@François: Sounds nice, isn't true... Like those catchy phrases we hear in TV commercials. A user interface is something you live with for quite a long time, usually years. Above all, it needs to be efficient. You must be able to do your daily tasks quickly and easily. So it's more desireably to have a short learning curve at the first day than to suffer from inefficient workflows for years.

I feel like the Tutorial app is a nice and easy way to explain to someone else how to operate the phone, without actually having to explain it yourself.

I deleted my original answer because it wasn't as "meta" as the OP wanted it to be. Lets try again:

The phone itself gives instructions via animations. That's enough in most cases. Without knowing I assume the decision was between "Have a simple swipe gesture that works easily with one hand" and "Have a conventional button so that other people than yourself can answer your calls". The UI is probably designed with the owner of the phone in mind.

Because there seems to be a bug, which isn't uncommon in software development. There are open questions about this issue here that you can vote for and help closing by providing additional information.

You can by changing the ambience.

None of these questions are "dummy questions", UI issues and ideas are being actively discussed as well as functional bugs.

Make her try the tutorial app, there is a specific section on how to take a call. Or show her directly, once and for all.

who prohibits to implement 2 ordinary answer buttons to accept or deny a phone call? Is it a "no go" because of the Sailfish philosophy then this is far to dogmatic for me.
calendar alarm: i am waiting 1 year to have resolved this issue. It doesnt help me a lot just to know other users are complaining about.
I know obout ambience relying on a background foto. But this is again a to dogmatic restriction. Just give the user the choice to define fontcolors. Thats freedom!

@arbyter: Swiping down instead of pressing a button is just easier and more natural. You don't even have to look at the phone. Only thing is you have to get used to it once. And it's not rocket science to simply swipe down. I cannot imagine what the problem is once you know how.

Advanced users can define ambience parameters such as font colors. Dummy users or "normal users" probably wouldnt want to get lost in a maze of primary color, secondary color, primary highlight color, secondary highlight color... At least I don't think it's consistent to assume a certain Jolla user would have issues answering a phone call but at the same time is able to create working themes. The ambience mechanism is a nice solution to ease this process, it's a unique feature I haven't seen before. Also, I have never seen (or couldn't remember at least) such a setting in other mobile operating systems I have used over the years. Download themes, yes. Change font colors, no.

As for the google bug.... Well, here we are. I don't know what to answer when your question basically is "Why is there a bug that annoys me". Because nobody fixed it, that's why. What other answer do you expect? Yes, it's a annoying and I understand your frustration but - how would a "normal users section" change the answer to this question?
