Question about email notification

Hi, I've faced a weird behaviour of my Jolla some days ago. I'd like to share it because I don't really understand what happened exactly.

First, I don't run any data contract, wifi only for me. So, some days ago I was at a place connected to a wifi access point, and, I suppose, I receive an email at this moment (but not really sure).

Then, I quit this place, took my car, and when I was few kms away from my wifi access point, I received the email notification. To me this is pretty weird. So any explanation would be great.
