What would we say, if Jolla would end the Indiegogo campaign (crowdfunding Jolla Tablet) early, based on the following lines which Jolla could share, warning people about this couple of days in advance:

Financial goal was reached and exceeded - "We're not greed Sailors - we only need enough to make it to the goal"
Ending early enables us to withdraw the funds and also start some processes early - possibly meaning an earlier delivery time
We did this to serve - and this way we feel we are serving in the best possible way

Now how about that Sailors?

Additionally, this might be a good sign to the public considering possible upcoming crowd funded projects - and gather quite a great news value (showing to all the world we're not selfish around Sailfish)

I would rather speed up things with supporting developers. For example here, that we get more nice software on it after the hardware arrived.

Why do you think Jolla would not have started right away now with the tablet? So it would not come sooner, but you will take away the chance of other people to pre-order it. In a way continuing the campaign to its set end date is more about giving more people a chance to participate. More tablets sold, means bigger batches, means more flexibility, better ODM support, etc... I would not say it would be about greed, but allowing the community to contribute even more to allow to create more value for all. The overwhelming interest might allow us to take into account more of your wishes and eventually (if possible within reasonable cost/timeframe) take into account some hardware requests too. For example if the batch is big enough we might be able to offer different colours. On a small 1000 pieces run we might not get any possible customisation at reasonable cost, as a different colour might mean slightly different tooling setup. But for 4 batches of 1000 of a different colour the situation could be entirely different. NOTE: this last bit was an example to illustrate how bigger batches allow for different things by spreading set-up/tooling costs.

Actually if we were greedy we would cash in now, and make everybody else pay more to get the tablet later ;)

I don't believe it would be a good idea.

There's no limitation I can see on the maximum number of tablets produced. If they can make money by continuing the campaign all the way to the 9th, it only makes sense to do so. Heck, with greater volumes, they should be able to drive down the per-unit cost of each tablet.
They've already stated that the first tablets will be shipped to the first contributors. As their initial goal has been achieved, I would expect they've already started whatever processes are needed to create the tablets. Stopping the campaign now won't change anything -- I'd be extremely surprised if their partners refused to begin work just because Jolla needed to "withdraw the funds". It should be pretty obvious that Jolla will have the $380,000 they were looking for by the 9th (if they don't have that much cash in the bank already).
I think that continuing to provide a discount on the retail price to early buyers does still serve the public, at least a little bit. :)

Fully agree with Copernicus! Just keep the campaign running till the end. Jolla know that they have achieved the stated target and that they can start working on a final product.

Also, while the campaign can be called a success, raising 2.5 X the target in just one day, we are a still talking about a small number of units. Around 4500 tablets is not much in today's tech world. Therefore, the more units are preordered, the better.

The only reason I see for closing the campaign early is if the momentum slows down. You want the campaign to go out with a positive vibe, and not with several hundred of a 1000 unit batch remaining there for weeks.

Maybe Jolla should open an unlimited 'final' pre sale price ($214) when the $209 batch sells out. A higher price will not really be a convincing early bird discount, and they can eke out the last few pre sales over the remaining weeks.

Maybe they don't want to be greedy. After that huge enthusiasm from the community, they just want to give the posibility to buy this tablet to as many people as possible. Furthermore: More money means more possibilities to enlarge the shipping, adding more features ( software and maybe also hardware ) and so on.

Jolla is one of these companys that i trust a little bit. These points above are all speculations and it's totaly possible, that i'm absolutly wrong.

I don't think we have greedy people among sailors either, not inside or outside. Just thought that this might offer us an opportunity to share this fact in a larger scale ;)

The only impact this would have is that less people can order it now as there are no other (pre-)sales channels. I don't see any logic in your proposal. Nobody would benefit in any way.

I don't think that they will earlier begin if they stop the campaign earlier. Keep in mind that they have not just to finished an os. There is a production to organize or reorganize without disturb the current one (the phone). The date that they give, is in my opinion the date when they can produce with enough time in case there no problem encountered... For my part I think they should maintain the date, for having a pretty hardware with less electro-bugs. avoid retour is teh best. I am for the best quality. An d for that more time is always the best (if it not too long).

I would say fill the last batch (only 700 left) and then make it happen :).

I think most people will welcome if they get their gadget sooner.
