Is it worth using an older version of Mitakuuluu?

We all know the issues that happened with Mitakuuluu and how it led to WhatsApp blocking accounts as according to them we were using an "unauthorised" app. Every once in a while however I cone across someone who claims that they are using an older version with no issues and their account is still active.

This leads me to think - is it safe to continue using an older version of the app and not have the risk of getting blocked? I am on the android version for now but I rarely get notifications and been on Jolla, I would prefer a native app over android apps.

If people are still using Mitakuuluu without getting blocked, can they tell is what version they are on?

Does anyone have any reason to believe that earlier versions will be safer to use?

I have 0.8.15.4 and it has not been blocked yet. My first year account should finish by the end of this year. However, after all these WA account blocking stories, I only use it to check received messages and I disconnect and quit. I am looking for an alternative IM platform, no point installing official android WA.

I don't have a lot of spare time, but started figuring out a TextSecure client for Jolla, which would basically have Mitakuuluu's UI. Hopefully this will lead to something and generate the buzz required :)

@pmelas If you keep it disconnected and manually check the messages, might as well use the Android app. At least you will have 100% assurance that you won't get blocked.

@Aashish true, I try to keep phone clear from android apps, especially those ones that require deep integration and run services in the background, plus i do not want WA to get my contacts, but that's just me(?)

I'm using 0.8.15, but I've used the whole WA service for only four months now, so maybe this factors in as well, if/ when being blocked? I mean, for how long one has used the service already...

No. But you can speed development of its replacement by donating to its coder @coderus here:

It is not save for one reason: The latest version has an encrypted connection to the whatsapp-server. This encryption is not implemented in the official whatsapp-api from mitakuuluu. The available whatsapp-apis on github all got banned by whatsapp cause of copyright violation. So I would highly recommend you using official whatsapp-client since Coderus will release the new client next year. I used mitakuuluu since I got the notification to register and I'm using official whatsapp since then.

not all WA clients are updated, e.g. the symbian ones should use the old api

Given that Whatsapp started block all unofficial clients. Is kept up to date and realistic that Coredus will release a new version Mitakuuluu?

@coderus Is there something new about this?

I had dropped a mail to him asking if he is planning to release an updated version. He said he might, but didn't quote any timeline. So I am really not sure how much of a priority it is for him. Of course we would all love to have one

... give him a little bit more time - i am sure, he hardly works on the new version :-)

I'm using version 0.8.13 without any problem so far and I read here and there people using 0.8.15. successfully. I have a free account since May 2012 (created with the N9).

I have the impression that people get banned when using (for too long?) version 0.8.14. which maybe left unwanted traces.

I didn't use 0.8.14 so far but after a while I got to re-register and I thinl re-registering with mitakuuluu could cause a ban :(

I had downloaded the installable for 0.8.13 in the past and recently installed it back on the phone. However, when I try to register with Whatsapp to start using it, it always fails. Have you encountered any error? If so, any suggestions on how to get around it?

Aashish ( 2015-01-01 22:16:15 +0300 )edit

@Aashish: no problems here. But I have to say, I started using Mitakuuluu (and registered at Whatsapp) with an older version than 0.8.13 and upgraded later.

Holger ( 2015-01-01 22:34:40 +0300 )edit

@Holger alright. I am one of those whose account got banned by whatsapp and then got it reactivated. After that I never tried using Mitakuuluu and only recently thought of trying it again. But cant get it to register.
