Update: Sailfish is coming to Puzzlephone, as announced on Slush and Indiegogo. I will leave the following text here anyway...
As mentioned in the current crowdfunding campaign, it seems that at least theoretically there could be the possibility to use different OS like Sailfish on the Puzzlephone, as they plan for an optional package with unlocked bootloader.
See in the comments the answer of Alejandro to Marko Paasila: Indiegogo Campaign Comments.
Maybe we can convince everyone that not only a "Maker" package is useful, but also a "Sailfish Package"? At least quite a few backers seem to also be backers of the Jolla Tablet. I guess we could at least ask politely.
Update: Let's collect votes for Puzzlephone here in the Poll on TJC
Update2: in the comments on Indiegogo we asked about unlocked bootloader and SFOS. Agra Apele answered (to Chris) that an unlocked bootloader "will be provided", and that they do take a note on SFOS for Puzzlephone... let's see what that means. :-)
Update3: a perk has been added that contains some info on tailoring custom modules... Quote:
The Heart (battery module) has a standard USB connection to the Brain (processor & cellular module). That makes The Heart (battery module) your ticket to ride: 3D print your custom modified version and fit your custom PCB solution, ready to talk with your app on the device.
The perk contains:
- Access to the PuzzlePhone Makers Community for regular updates on these materials during the R&D process.
- 3D CAD of casework in STL format for 3D printing prior to end of campaign.
- Puzzlephone Design Guide: How to make your own modules (how to connect, how to make your own modules, how to interface with sensors, etc.)
- Module connector cables in various lengths, plus break out connector board.
- Unlocked boot-loader.
looks like TOH - The Other Heart...
Update4: SFOS will come to PuzzlePhone, as announced on Slush, and in the latest Indiegogo Update. Yeah...
I don't think they'd be interested, since they're looking to have a fully auditable phone, hence fully open-source, which Sailfish unfortunately is NOT!
dsilveira ( 2014-12-02 14:41:34 +0200 )edit@dsilveira Yes, unfortunately not yet, but hopefully reaching their goal to be that. Let's work towards it!
simo ( 2014-12-02 23:28:46 +0200 )editI don't think they are from Nokia background(at least not the main guys), you are probably mixing them with Vseen, yet another Finnish company doing a modular phone with Android :)
VDVsx ( 2014-12-03 20:00:05 +0200 )editYeah, probably minor... They mention marketing (Agra Agala) with Nokia Latvia background, but in the main team no other mentions. Editing that part away.
simo ( 2014-12-03 21:05:43 +0200 )editI think speculation will be much more informed, both for Puzzlephone and Vsenn, after MWC .. for now, it's purely academic.
