[Official announcement] Jolla Tablet returns to Indiegogo with updated tech specs! [not a question]

The ext-filesystem for SD cards is not something new. It's already there, you can use it here and now on your Jolla phone. They cashed the money from the stretch goal for nothing.

Then count it on making bigger battery and better display. Way better than paying for a licence, and a lot of people asked/voted for this to happen.

Presumably these Linux using Jolla users don't use cameras?

And Mac users are screwed by this as Macs do not support MTP and Jolla's PTP support with iPhoto is completely borked.

Most people using a Jolla probably use altough a Linux. What makes you assume most of the people using Jolla phone uses Linux? Including exFat support wouldn't have affected at all the usage of FOSS-crusaders own memorycards in anyway since Sailfish already supports those filesysytems, but now it makes it harder if not next to impossible for average Joe and Jane to use bigger memorycards with the tablet.

When I received the survey, I did not know that the features hinted in the question (bigger battery) would come at the cost of SD or proximity. I think that should have been clearer. The tablet is meant to be used by everyone, not just us...so don't assume everyone's using linux anyway or that everyone is a techie or comfortable with doing everything the hard way. Its a tablet. It should be easy to use...and the selling point of Sailfish OS was its compatibility...THAT cannot be lost and perhaps it was in this whole sd thing. The other part is, that the primary worth of a tablet comes from its mobility, to enable people to get important work done, wherever they are or in emergency. That includes things like ease of use, compatibility, connectivity with projectors, (and finding spare parts, batteries, accessories with ease) etc. Tablets should not be confused with laptops, phablets or phones.

I completely understand how people feel to have paid for a feature that they have now lost. If bigger batteries were that important, perhaps they should have been added as another goal in the campaign.

Don't know about Jolla, but in android, the SD is actually pretty critical when messing with ROMS. If its not easy to use ...yeah I just can't agree with what was done.

They already supported the idea of open source, at least partially. They also support the idea of proprietary Microsoft standards already too, such as supporting Exchange.

Open Source don't means isolation. Talking in a foreign language is ok. Like english (for me).

@utkiek Sorry to disappoint you, but Jolla phone is full of patents/licenses. Just think of 3G technology (http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/3G) - and many others used in any mobile device. All of them are full of numerous licensed technologies. So why do you pay for them? Just throw your phone away. And don't forget to throw away all your computers, laptops or anything you have, all Wi-Fi devices - they all use licensed technologies.

@rburkhanov. Because in this instance, the SD Card size has a viable alternative. Pay nothing extra, get to use as large of an SD card as you want or pay a license fee to get to use as large of an SD card as you want.

It's not like we have viable alternatives to WiFi or 3G. Convoluting all other license agreements is quite disingenuous.

Yeah, and maybe something that helps it easily connect to new and old projectors (vga, hdmi, wirelessly)

afaik it means that the display is fused to the glass, it allows the display to be thinner (probably making way for the increased battery) and increased optical clarity. This comes at a cost of replacing the glass should it break, but the tablet is going to be a sealed unit anyway so that's not a big deal.

In normal displays, there is an air gap between the touch sensor and display panel. A fully laminated display eliminates this gap, reduces refraction and improve visibility. It can also reduce power consumption and prevent foreign matter (i.e. dust) from being trapped in the display.

But AFAIK that means if the touchlayer glass breaks, the whole display needs to be changed.

They told you would be able to use it via mtp. This means you can access your tablets SD-Card just like every android device(or mp3-player, camera,...). Which is what the phoneis already doing with it's internal storage.

@kormarun, Macs do not support MTP. The only way you can expose the filesystem is via sftp over wifi or in developer mode after you've installed horndis on the Mac.

No experience with the innards and names of all this (MTP, filesystem, sftp over wifi, developer mode, horndis :-) A while ago, novamedia.de offered an iSync plugin (v. 2.0) I still use to sync the E7 (Symbian) w. SL (Mac OSX10.6.8). Syncmate (a brand of Eltima?) offers Syncmate4 for OSX 10.6 to 10.8 and v. 5 for newer OSX, both free to try in their core functionality.

Would this be the solution? Anyone knows or do we have to wait until May? :-) Perhaps a Jolla cap'n? Thank you!

"A good product is never finished" ;) Ok, I probably misquoted there, but the campaign is called "people powered" for a reason. We are taking feedback from the community and adapting/improving based on the inputs. In this second phase we introduced a higher capacity memory option, and we are offering the first contributors the ability to upgrade it at a lower price. We are not forcing you to do it of course, it's entirely up to you :)

I know, I'm just wondering if this than will be the final product, or if i have to pay again in two weeks for another improvement which will than be released as a "vip-combi-super-action-pack-with-moneysaving-abilities" two weeks later. (look at the Other Halves for example) -excuse my rant-

@XiliX - I think you are angry at the mistaken assumption that you won't be getting the 'upgrades'. Since the campaign did well, Jolla has listened to our feedback, and tweaked the hardware design to address the community's concern. But finally everybody will be getting the same tablet. You, as one of the first ones just got the tablet on a discounted rate. All the others now will be paying more.

All tablets (in both first and second phases of the campaign) will come with gyroscope, compass, increased battery capacity, laminated display, etc. The only variable is in the amount of internal storage: 32 or 64 GB!

I also pledged in the first phase already, so if I now want to have 64 GB internal storage in my tabletI should now pledge 25$ for that, right?
