When tapping a mail item in events view you are taken to that specific email and when you swipe back you are taken to that specific inbox. But when you tap the group item you are taken to the aggregated view with all unread email.

I expect to either go to the aggregated view when swiping back from the email item view in the first case or to be taken directly to the inbox associated with the group in the latter case.

Added the two alternatives as answers so it's possible to vote on each.

The latter, please! Tapping a group should take you to that account. That's just intuitive.

I agree with @pichlo on that.

I suggest use some screenshots to elaborate what is wanted and suggested.

Screenshots are tricky since by their very nature (we are talking emails here) they may reveal some personal information.

I believe the description is clear enough. If you have more than one email account set up on your Jolla and receive multiple email notifications, they are groupped in the events view by the account. The OP suggests that tapping the account should open the Email app in that account as opposed to the aggregate view with all the accounts.

I suggest to separate two different issues here: 1. Non-intuitive behavior of accounts labels on the events screen. 2. Mess in principles of navigation into the app and between the apps. In my opinion swiping back should be used only for in-app navigation.

Added https://together.jolla.com/question/319/enhancements-of-the-email-client/?answer=113606#post-id-113606 to the general email app enhancement question, maybe you @Mohjive want to add yours there too if I do not cover your request/idea already.

You are following a misconception here, in times of IMAP you do not have a single INBOX on one account, well you can have a single inbox but for example I don't, additionally I filter mails of 3 inboxes to folders directly, my clients watch those folders for new msgs and notify me about it. As there is no "new mail" aggregation per account page, the logical place you go is the overview of all accounts. The mailclient is missing features for that it seems, so for now you could land in the default INBOX but why implement something that is void as soon as another feature gets implemented (maybe a rule like: if not watching >1 folders go to INBOX?).

Mental model of most of the user does not contain technical concepts such as IMAP. In common mental model one has e-mail address on which letters are sent.

@chemist: how does your solution present it self in events view? If you get a new mail to one or more of your folders? How do you read mail? Do mails filtered to other mailboxes still show up in the aggregated unread view?

Mohjive ( 2015-10-02 16:17:31 +0300 )edit

No you don't. And as far as I am concerned, I get that many emails that most of the time events-view does show three dots. This is more like a general complaint. And you do not need many inboxes to have that issues. Just filtering new emails in different folders works the same way. So even using just one email and receiving just on that, at a certain point it makes sense to filter into folders and you have the same issue.

chemist ( 2015-10-03 02:02:41 +0300 )edit

Ok. The reason for my question was that if you don't see the new mails in the unread view there's no reason to go there either, when you tap the group heading. So going to the specific view isn't worse than going to aggregate view.

Mohjive ( 2015-10-03 09:47:18 +0300 )edit

Well, as soon as there be multi-folder-watch options available, where would you go? So, following the concept of having only one inbox always is actually following a misconception as only the client is missing features. I am totally ok with landing in the inbox if there is only one setup though. But from the looks of it now, where is the actual pain in landing in the aggregated-view? You are looking for new mail so that is where all new is listed without already read items.
