Hi, The official Jolla Mail app doesn't let me send a mail, I regularly get a "Sync Error". Is this a known issue?

I installed K-9 Mail (great Android app), but unfortunatley I could not choose to make this the standard mail app: A click on mail addresses on websites still opened Jolla Mail automatically without giving me a choice. In the end I had to delete Jolla Mail.

Debugging the mail app is extremely difficult as it doesn't appear to offer any logging/debug output, even if launched from the command line. Unless you run your own mailserver you're likely out of luck. If you're certain that you have the port settings right for SMTP then you should try tinkering with the other settings: If it's regular SMTP on port 25, try enabling TLS security. Try that with and without encrypted passwords.

If next update does not fix this, please comment back here, I can help debug it.

Hi there,

I have that problem, too. For three of my accounts I can look in the log of the mail server but I can only see connections for IMAP. The device does not even seem trying to connect and send mail. Any chance to do some logging on the phone itself?

Update: after playing around with the auth settings it finally works. The Google account needed recreation - why ever.

I reopened the questions since other sailors and me still facing the same problem. I have two pop3 mail accounts and I can only receive mails but cannot send mails from both of them. I have tried the right settings and whatever alternative I came across thru googling but I still get the sync error.

Gmail account with same issue. Receiving email function works fine but cannot send any email. 1.0.4.20 OS update installed.

@jsoubiran - What settings are you using for SMTP ? You can also just use the Google account and no need to enter any settings.

@petros and @c.la - What are your settings and provider ? If you can collect logs better send them to mail-logs at jolla dot com

The native Jolla mail app has a known and (propably already fixed) issue with smtp username.

Have a look, if this will fix your problem:

http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=1399951&postcount=11

In my case, it fixed it because the smtp/smtpusername and the smtp/address were set the same by the UI. With my account these two settings are different.

Of course, all other settings must be correct. In my case, TLS with port 587 and Authentication "Encrypted password" is working perfectly.

...and this has been fixed with the latest update, so accepting your answer and closing.

I have what I feel like is the latest version (1.0.4.20) and it doesn't seem to be fixed. Some observations:

1) Incoming (IMAP) seems fine. 2) My username is in the form of domain\username ... same for IMAP and SMTP. 3) SMTP configuration is to use TLS on port 587 with plain password. I've tried also with encrypted password, no luck. But coworkers who connect successfully have configured their Android phones to use STARTTLS, not TLS. I don't know if that matters but have no STARTTLS to try.

I can confirm this. I have two email accounts (imap), using Jolla Mail-App, with latest update 1.0.4.20. None of my accounts works for sending, just receiving. When I go to Settings/Synchronization I see an endless list of messages telling me email synchronization has failed.

Is there a way to re-open or un-answer a question? It would be nice if someone could look into this again. Incidentally - I have two imap/smtp accounts; with one I am able to send and with the other I'm not so I guess there's a specific SMTP implementation that causes the problem?

Reopened and unaccepted the answer, it may be worth adding details to figure out what doesn't work e.g., email provider, output of ag-tool list-settings <account id=""> minus passwords and so on.</account>

I had the same issue and after lots of fiddling with it, it looked like my Jolla send an old (maybe not even used by me) password to the server.

We checked the password on the phone, this was the same as on the server. Enabled password debugging on the server. Noticed the phone was sending a completely different non-hashed password as send by the user. We reset the password on the phone and server twice, rebooted the phone twice, and it worked.

That may be the reason why I could read my incoming mail only once between midsummer and Jul 20th. After updating to 1.0.8.19, sending and receiving mail have succeeded but mailbox synchronization mostly fails (so I can't delete a message).

I run my own Zimbra server with zextras installed. The zextras.com team found a bug that when replying to email the Sailfish mail software crashed. They have confirmed the bug and it ought to make it in the next Sailfish update.

@zogars - If the crash is in the client side(device) could them send more information to us ? it should not crash even if the server has bugs. Information could be send to mail-logs at jolla dot com. Thanks

I'm having troubles with Outlook Exchange account, often it stops syncing automatically. Sometimes it's enough to wait, sometimes reset the sync schedule, once I had to delete the account completely and remake it to get emails coming in. It might have something to do with Internet connection quality, i've noticed that if it fails with bad connection, it might get stuck in a loop and will not sync with a good connection either.

Regarding the second part of your question, you would need to add/modify a URL handler for opening the desired mail app (even if anadroid) when clicking on an email address, but there is not sufficient documentation to be found on how to format those handler configuration files.

More info can be found here: https://together.jolla.com/question/87490/possibility-to-add-a-url-handler-for-an-android-app/
