Yesterday I flashed my xperia x and all is fine, but my camera / camera app does not work. When I start the camera app the phone shows only a black screen, the shooter icons are visable but nothing more. Is there a magic trick??

There are 3 links that being very informative. But none of them worked on my phone, which shows the same problem. It seems to be an on going bug for jolla OS.

https://together.jolla.com/question/156510/bug-camera-app-not-opening-after-2109-update/

Actually, what seems to be common among those bugs are:

[W] unknown:0 - CameraBin error: "Could not initialize supporting library."

[D] unknown:0 - "Unexpected reply signature: got \"\", expected \"a{sv}\""

[D] unknown:0 - "Unexpected reply signature: got \"\", expected \"a{sv}\""

Let me answer my own question. It is a hardware problem, and I have solved by changing the camera exactly like other in this thread. I bought one camera on eBay, and did the swap myself. Now it is running perfectly like new.

[2.1.4.14] Today my camera stopped working, like described in the question but i flashed my phone in the first release days. For the first time after release it is dead now. But i am able to switch to the frontcamera which works fine. Switching back or to videomode does not help. The screen is still black. Restart does not help. Can i get it working somehow without reflashing the phone?

Edit: after reading s lot of different sony forums and different solutions I discovered, that it must be a hardwareissue that is caused by bad construction of the motherboard. One solution is to press the camera into the body. So pressing hard with two fingers in the upper right corner (1 finger on display, 1 on the cameralens), made it work again. The camera app was open and blackscreen. While pressing the functioality came back. That I would call a construction failure.

Edit2: Solution: replace the camera Module! After a too long time of not being able to take pictures I ordered this week a cameramodule, a backcoversticker and some tools to give the hardwarereplacement a try. The replacement was easy and fast. Now the camera works again and after the latest update 2.2.029 better then before! :-) So at the end of the day it is definitely a Harware issue. If someone needs the link to the replacement tutorial just ask ;-)

It looks like a hardware failure. I would check the flat cable connection and possibly replace the camera module, it's available on the Web. Unfortunately the phone is a bit tricky to open, that's why I hate these unibody phones and would prefer one with a user-openable lid even if it's 1 mm thicker.

No its not hardwareside... Must be some problem with the latest update.

Raymaen ( 2018-04-02 17:12:56 +0300 )edit

How can you be sure of that?

  1. see the answer from @Superyuan and @p1rat
  2. My wife experienced something simmilar but the camera works again, how ever that is possible.
  3. The Phone is what, 6 Months old and I am not the only one?

That makes me think even more it's a hardware problem.

I had the same problem. My camera stopped working, when I pressed the camera together it worked again until I released the pressure. Sometimes later the camera stopped working completely. This inidcated to me, that it must be a hardware problem, so I ordered a new camera an changed it today. Success, now it is working again !!!

For repair instructions I used this guide: Sony Xperia X Rear Camera Repair Guide

I payed about 30,00€ for the new camera module...

I decide to do "a shoting with the shot gun". :-)

I follow the instructions on http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p=1536378&postcount=1 to reflash my xperia x.

The flash process produce no errors and now the camera works as expected.

Dont know what happend last time. I think there was also no error.

Hi there! How is the quality of the pictures with you Xperia X? Thx for the feeback.

I'm really happy with the photos I've shot so far, though I really need to compare it with something else. The Xperia X screen is very clear and crisp - so I'll have to compare on a PC/Monitor

Hi @Ryan yes a comparison would be great, maybe with the Galaxy S7 or similar model, possible?

Same problem. Installed everything just like the official says, but still get a black screen on the camera. Interestingly the front camera works sometime, not always. So the only photo I could take is selfie ....

when I connect it to my computer, debug shows this:

[nemo@Sailfish ~]$ jolla-camera

[D] unknown:0 - Using Wayland-EGL

[D] unknown:0 - Defaulting to webview scaling factor of 1.0

[W] unknown:0 - CameraBin error: "Could not initialize supporting library."

[W] unknown:250 - file:///usr/lib/qt5/qml/Sailfish/Silica/DialogHeader.qml:250: TypeError: Cannot read property 'forwardIndicatorDown' of null

I think the problem should be here:

[D] unknown:0 - "Unexpected reply signature: got \"\", expected \"a{sv}\""

I had the same problem after changing the main camera's picture ratio to 4:3 in Settings>App>Camera. Both cameras stopped working, showing a black picture. After switching back to 16:9 both cameras worked again.
