Jolla announced different information about the bluetooth functionality (from not available to will maybe works without garanty).

Hope that the user which are using the Sony Xperia X in conjunction with Sailfish OS can share their experience, think this is not only interesting for me :-) Mean functionality with bluetooth devices, car entertainment systems etc.

The bluetooth functionality from the Jolla C was unfortunately a mess (no sync of the telephone list with the car entertainment system, problems with music streaming with the car entertainment system, bluetooth speaker etc.) Got from Jolla unfortunately, after mentioning these problems in the past, the answer that the Jolla C is only a community device (don't expect that we will fix such topics in the future).

Many thanks in advance :-)

Update: Sailfish X up and running, unfortunaltely the description from Jolla is not that good resp. not detailed enough.

First check: My Nokia bluetooth speaker are working fine when I use the Jolla media app, can conncet both of them (stereo mode). Connecting itself was very fast in my case. Received app (can recommend it :-)) is working now.

Jolla C is also working fine, can tranfer information between the two phones.

BMW: Possible to connect, contacts were synced (names and numbers) which was not supported with the Jolla C, calls via the hands-free system is possible. So this issue is fare better than in conjunction with the Jolla C.

Unfortunately syncing music, independent if I use the Jolla media app or the app "Received" is not possible, no sound. In the settings Sailfish X is supporting 7 different profiles (Jolla 1 only 6), but with the Jolla 1 everything is running fine but not with the Xperia X :-(

Jolla please help!

Update II (2.1.4.13): No changes, not working after the (EA) update. On top of that also the bluetooth of my Jolla 1 is not working anymore (see also here: https://together.jolla.com/question/179310/jolla1-audio-not-routed-over-bluetooth-in-21413/)

Update III (2.1.4.14): together.jolla.com/question/179310/jolla1-audio-not-routed-over-bluetooth-in-21413/ --> solved

I had the possibility to test it with some other cars (and entertainment systems), think the results are independent from V13 or V14:

BMW 220D (manufacturing date January 2018): Possible to connect, sync telephone list incl. numbers, calls via the hands-free system were possible, music were routed via bluetooth

VW Passat (manufacturing date February 2018): Possible to connect, sync telephone list incl. numbers, calls via the hands-free system were possible, music were routed via bluetooth, strange behavior: possible to turn the volume down but not up :/ (only possible on the phone in both direction).

Maybe this is more an issue about the manufacturing date of the entertainment system and not an issue about the used car brand itself.

HFT is not enabled in Sailfish Xperia X because of bluez5. See my answer somewhere down the road - I have posted also the profiles reported by Sailfish Xperia X and AquaFish.

Sailfish on AquaFish is bluez4 and HFT works.

Headset and Audio source and sink (a2dp) seem to work in bluez4 and bluez5. Perhaps not all devices but most.

There are issues with pairing, especially pairing older devices.

In my case the bluetooth implementation of the Jolla C is not working, with my BMW sync is possible but with no audio, no names (only telephone numbers) etc. Not sure what cause all the problems, Jolla gave never an answer regarding that issue. They aware of the problem but don't saw any reasons to fix that.

Try filling the "name" and "surname" fields in Prople, then check if names are shown. On the Alfa Giulia only entdies with names are shown, and the infotainment hardware is the same as BMW.

Bluetooth seems to work ok with my laptop to send and receive files.

What I found quite cool was the download list shows where the files were sent/ received from

image description

Not tested it with a headset yet because I have no sim in the phone atm but seems to work perfectly fine with a Creative D100 Bluetooth speaker I have here.

My Xperia connects to my Pioneer-Car-Audio (DEH 4800BT).

  • the radio seems not to recognize any phone-function of the phone.
  • the music is playing but makes every few secons a little break and its very quiet, I had to turn it on a lot.

EDIT (Update to 2.1.4.14): - if wifi is turned of, playing music works good. - i tested calling more than one time, it didnt work, except of yesterday, when i was called by a friend, it worked too

Pairs with Xperia XA Dualsim and able to send and receive files. For a big surprise, connects with my Golf mk7 Bluetooth radio. Can ring and answer calls in car, even use Bluetooth audio (Cutespot and Android Spotify). Unfortunately Golf steering wheel buttons for next and previous track doesn't work. With Jolla1 and Cutespot those buttons worked fine.

Edit: With SFOS 3.0.1.11 (and even some SFOS 2.0 versions) Xperia X doesn't work so nice with my car anymore. I have to change from car system BT settings which to use, A2DP for media (spotify) or HFP for Handsfree Phone. When SailfishX was released the two profiles worked fine together. Now to listen to media, I have to disconnect from HFP in my car. How to fix this?

Paired my Xperia X with Renault Scenic III (=CarKit, which is reported as "My_Radiosat" in bluetooth devices) as Audio Device (like described here).

Phoneing and audiostreams work well.

It beahves differently than Jolla 1 or an outdated Jolla C because Sailfish switched to bluez5 some weeks ago (e.g. song titles are missing; songs don't start from beginning, when reconnected (which is good)).

The (almost) only use case and very important for me is to have Bluetooth functional in the car. Here my results:

Mercedes C-Class - Audio 20:

Phone is detecting the Audio 20 and is setting status to "paired". However: In fact this is not true and when I search the Xperia via Audio 20 then it is detecting it as well and sending the codes for verification. After clicking ok on both devices the Audio 20 ends with "Phone doesn't have the required profile for Pairing".

Kia Rio:

Phone is detecting the Kia Radio and is setting status to "paired". However: In fact this is not true and when I search the Xperia via Kia radio then it is detecting it as well but it is not pairing at all.

Seems that the current Bluetooth functionality is very limited and still needs attention from Jolla. Hopefully this will be fixed in the next update.

[Edit] 14.11.2017

It's a pitty that I still can't use the Xperia X as my daily phone and successor of the Jolla C / Jolla 1. Would be great to get this Bluetooth nightmare solved as soon as possible.

All tries to connect the Xperia X to both cars mentioned above ended in a mess. Now I permanently have two dead bodies in the list of detected Bluetooth devices which can't be deleted. One is some unknown "Navi" and the other one is the MAC address of the KIA Rio audio system.

Question: Is there any chance to get rid of these annoying entries without resetting the phone again? Maybe there is a way to delete them on OS level?

Thanks for help ;)

[Edit] 09.03.2018

Great to see 2.1.4.14 on Xperia X and Jolla devices now.

However:

Bluetooth still not working for KIA Rio and Mercedes C-Class - Audio 20

It is still very annoying that Jolla doesn’t seem to be able to implement at least a minimum set of traditional Bluetooth profiles (like HFP, A2DP, PBA…) according the Bluetooth standards which would work with most of the devices on the market.

This gap prevents me to use the X as daily phone… Or I will use it and will have to use additionally the Jolla C just for car connections.

Just sad that Jolla doesn’t listen to the complaints of many users in TJC.

I hope the Jolla crew is concentrating now on this basic feature to be fixed finally in 2.2.0. It doesn't make sense to enable SFOS for more devices unless Jolla doesn't have a general solution or strategy for Bluetooth.

[Edit] 19.04.2018

After playing a bit around this Bluetooth topic it is working now... Seems there was some SIM card related problem. I can confirm now that car connection is working for:

1) KIA RIO (2013)

2) MB C-Class (Audio 20) (11/2016)

Both audio systems could be paired with the X and also reading the address book is possible which was not at first tries with Audio 20

Now finally the X is on the way to become my primary device.... looking forward ;)

@vision: If you have enabled the Developper Mode just follow these steps in Terminal:

devel-su [enter pass and become root]

cd /var/lib/bluetooth

ls [you'll see the list of stored MACs]

rm -rf ??:??:??:??:??:?? [replace ??:??:??:??:??:?? with the proper MAC you want to remove]

And restarting the bluetooth system should be enough.

I get very mixed bag results with Sailfish X connected to my Hyundai i30. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. Sometimes it works the second time I try. I mean for example to retrieve phone call history from telephone, sometimes it fails at first attempt, sometimes works the second time and sometimes no luck although I'd try million times. Calling from handsfree function is the same thing. Sometimes no problems, sometimes fails immediately. And then it gets interesting: sometimes car says that call couldn't be made, but suddenly after few seconds Xperia X is anyway calling and then pops up also after few seconds of that to car screen.

Volume of the calls on the other hand are always way too low! Not easy to hear although car is showing volume as "max".

Works with: - Plantronics Voyager (calls, answer/end, volume, mute, music) - JBL Xtreme (music at least) - Alpine car audio (calls, phone book, answer/end)

Doesn't work with: - Alpine car audio (music)

So my car audio only works partially, which is strange...

Edit: 2.1.4.13 EA did not improve compatibility with Alpine; still no music... Others to be tested.

Edit: 2.1.4.14 released and installed. I still can't get audio/music out from my Alpine, but my handsfrees and no-name stereo BT headphones work as expected. My Alpine works with Android, so, I'm runnin out of ideas... Is it an Alpine or SFOSX issue... O.o

A lot of cars are affected and as long as Jolla is not able to implement a basic standard set of bluetooth profiles it will not work for many cars in future as well. I am really wondering why all other mobile manufacturers don't have these problems.

So far I can't use the X as daily phone since I need this bluetooth thing as well.

And the worst thing is that Jolla is just silent and not listening to us. No statement, no comment, nothing.
