how much time needed to flash sailfish X?

Hi, when sailfish x has been released users were reporting 5-6 hours required to download emma tool, the salìfish X image and flash it to Xperia.

Now with the release of RC4 there is mention of "Support for Sailfish X installation to Xperia X using Windows PC" (same for Linux and Mac).

Does this mean that the overall time required has decreased?

I barely have one hour free and I would like to install SFX on my xperia

It took me few hours, in my case I had to upgrade, unlock the phone and then flash SFOSX. The actual flashing operations do not take long. I spend most of the time reading instructions and waiting for emma to download the latest image.

Flashing itself only took me roughly half an hour (see my video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdiwzcTMo0c ) Though that was with having the latest Android Update already on the phone aswell as the SailfishOS Image downloaded. So if you haven't and your internet connection isn't that fast it can take a bit longer.

If you have a brand new phone and don't run into any trouble, I estimate the whole process (update, unlock, flash) to take about one hour. But it takes a lot more time to make and restore backups, set up email accounts and such, configure Sailfish OS to your liking, installing extra apps, and everything else to get you truly up and running.

I needed approx 2 hrs to do the ota updates of droid bulk. All the other things took approx 30 Mins because I read 2-3 installation guides more than once to be sure to do it right. Some of the steps in the guide can be omitted :)

For me it was about 2 hours, not too hard but I'd say a bit long.

For flashing + unlocking I needed about 10 minutes tops. Despite being new user of SF. I used Mageia linux for that. But OTOH I was nervous to start for hours ;).

Please note that the phone was updated to the minimum required version so I didn't needed Emma tool.

Likewise, took time to take plung, android at latest version, but literally minutes to unlock and flash.

Done on OpenSUSE linux.

I used the instructions on https://jolla.com/sailfishx-linux-instructions/ everything runs smooth on Ubuntu 16.04.3. I spent the most time on checking if it's possible to unlock the bootloader, check the Buildno and installing the needed updates. The process of unlocking the bootloader and flashing SFOSX take around 30 Minutes. With all my checks updates and documentation of every step switch SFOSX took around one and a half hour.

I maybe not be a reference, but it took me about 10/15 hours. In fact, to unlock my phone was the most difficult as I didn't really understand the way on windows ( I finished by using lInux), about 60% of time. The flash by itself, less than 1 hour ! I am not expert and I was afraid to be blocked as I decided to take a dual sim, so each time I stooped I didn't know if it was the procedure of the fact to have a "non officia" xperia.. But now, I am very happy with my new phone !

Using Windows 10, I spent time as follows:

Installing fastboot driver: appr. 10 min.

Unlocking bootloader: appr. 10 min.

Flashing Sailfish X: appr. 10 min.

Additionally, I spent most time preparing for backing up DRM keys, until I decided not to go through that process. If Sailfish X was pre-installed, I would have bought the phone anyway, so I thought: why bother preparing for the very unlikely fact that I would go back to Android.

i spent quite a lot of time on DRM backup. worked well but then you have to upgrade back up from 6.0.1 whichtakes hours as it does about 15 update cycles. maybe it would be sped up by just reflashing rather than going via OTA updates. anyway, all done on linux, prettu good instructions available. I used the nordic_generic image in downgrade.

Yes, I did it by flashing directly to the latest version downloaded using XperiFirm, it was much faster than OTA updating would have been. Doing it that way also has the advantage of flashing to a language of your choice, which can make the preparation for SFOS easier.

took me like 5 hours and that was just updating phone. flashing and starting up sailfish like 5 mins

Could take 8hours from front to back, especially if you happen to have an Apple computer only and unlocked Xperia bootloader prior to updating Android.

I did it on two Sony Xperia X devices now. 1st time the overall process took me about three hours, while the upgrading process of the existing android version took the most time (2 hrs I'd say). Unlocking & flashing afterwards also took me an hour. The instructions given by Jolla are quite clear (have been improved), but never having done that, it took me a while to figure out certain steps.

Knowing what to do, I was faster on the second device: 1.5 hours on the Android, 20 minutes unlocking and flashing. Flashing itself really took no longer than 5 minutes on a Win7 computer.

As other users mentioned: Migrating your stuff from the old phone takes much longer, even though making use of SFOS's-backup-migrating feature is very comfortable.
