Xperia X + Sailfish => No Warranty on hardware ?
My Xperia X USB data port died (Physical problem, metal from connector got scraped after many cable insertions).
The device still beeing under warranty, I sent it back, with information on how to check if repair was working on sailfishOs (easy :) . The Sony Repair Center in France (Cordon Electronics - Amazon) sent me the phone back without any repairs done.

(Irreparable: attempt to modify mobile software. In accordance with the terms of your manufacturer's warranty, your product is no longer covered by the warranty).
No way to put android back (no TA save, and no more USB data)
I've seen in together.jolla that hardware warranty was still valid in Finland. I'm very interested by feedback from other sailors about warranty, in France or in other countries.
EDIT: I've just phoned Sony Support and they say that rooting your phone voids the warranty :-(
I'm having an issue with my Xperia X's upper microphone. Contacted firstly Verkkokauppa.com where I bought the phone and they said to contact directly Mobylife which services these phones. From Mobylife they said that because of the modifications done to the phone, they can't repair the phone under the warranty. According to them it was Sony's statement. And yes btw I'm living in Finland.
I'm still confused about this because somehow I've got this feeling that under the EU's law, the phone should be repaired under the warranty repair, if they can't clearly point out that the faulty is due to the modification done on the device. I'll try to contact Sony directly, see if it helps.
Any tips?
Sakke ( 2018-07-19 15:14:20 +0200 )edit@Sakke Yeah, I'm pretty sure that I've also read somewhere that they can't deny warranty repairs due to rooting in the EU. They can still try to mislead you, but IMHO don't have any actual legal standing.
The following articles seem to agree with this interpretation:
https://www.xda-developers.com/xda-external-link/rooting-cannot-legally-void-your-warranty/
https://www.piana.eu/root/
https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/130gie/fsfe_legal_advice_in_europe_rooting_and_flashing/
Also, if you have made a backup of the TA partition, it should be possible to completely roll back any changes in device software state. This might unfortunately be the easier option than actually making use of own legal rights in this case...
MartinK ( 2018-07-19 15:33:09 +0200 )editI've just phoned Sony Support France and they say that rooting your phone voids the warranty :-(, even for usb port (which is not on the motherboard by the way).
About the legal situation: the mandatory warranty is 1 year in France (maybe Europe?). I'm in the 2 years Sony warranty, and I suppose that only Sony own conditions apply here.
I suppose I'll have to change the USB port myself. (7$ at witrigs ). I've had a look for microphones (upper microphone bt the way ??), but did not see any spare for it.
Edit: @MartinK: very useful information in your links (thanks). I'll give it a try.
JoliJolla ( 2018-07-19 15:36:18 +0200 )editFixing the usb charger port is not that difficult, it's more difficult opening the case tho. I did send mine to sony repair before flashing it with SFOS but I am not impressed with their service as they have not assembled it back properly.
