Email account suddenly stopped working [not relevant]

After about a month of using SailfishX, my email account just stopped working in the native email app. It displays only a couple of folders (Outbox, Deleted Items, Drafts, Sent) and all of them are empty. Inbox is nowhere to be found.

This is essentially what was reported here. The difference is that in my case nothing changes even if I recreate the account.

I use the Xperia X Compact (thanks to g7's compatibility layer), if it's of any importance. The email provider is KolabNow.

What could be wrong?

I was experiencing similar behavour in the last two months on exchange account. 3.0.1.11 update seems to resolve the issue.

But ... I don't have any firm proof that the issue really was 3.0.0.8 related since it appeared out of blue, vanished after a week and resurfaced soon after.

I finally managed to get at least some logs. Attached is the journal recorded while updating directory list in the Email application.journal_dir_sync.txt

This looks like the interesting part:

Jan 08 20:14:25 Sailfish mapplauncherd[1183]: Boosted process (pid=3315) was terminated due to signal 11
Jan 08 20:14:25 Sailfish invoker[4259]: error: Can't send signal 11 to application [3315]: No such process
Jan 08 20:14:25 Sailfish systemd[1138]: transferengine.service: Main process exited, code=killed, status=11/SEGV
Jan 08 20:14:25 Sailfish systemd[1138]: transferengine.service: Unit entered failed state.
Jan 08 20:14:25 Sailfish systemd[1138]: transferengine.service: Failed with result 'signal'.
Jan 08 20:14:25 Sailfish Msgsrv[1255]: [Warning] TransferEngineClient::createSyncEvent: failed to get transfer ID!
Jan 08 20:14:25 Sailfish Msgsrv[1255]: [Warning] void RunningAction::statusAccountIdChanged(const QMailAccountId&) Failed to create sync event in transfer engine!

systemctl status transferengine.service says the service doesn't exist so I have no idea how to gather any further data.

Thanks! I see there's QRPluginInfo::query line which hints that you have some third party plugins installed.

Now I'd be interested in a) does this fail if extra plugins are removed, and b) do others have such plugins installed

Pekka Vuorela ( 2019-01-10 11:29:25 +0300 )edit

I don't recall installing any plugins. How do I know where and what these plugins are? And how can I remove them?

Vratislav Podzimek ( 2019-01-10 11:45:07 +0300 )edit

By googling the class I found this: https://github.com/Acce0ss/harbour-qr-share-plugin/blob/master/src/qrplugininfo.cpp

So check if you have package something like that installed. Openrepos maybe used?

I removed the plugin, but I still cannot see the folders. Here's the journal output. This time ther's no segfault:

Jan 10 16:34:18 Sailfish dbus-daemon[1150]: Activating via systemd: service name='org.nemo.transferengine' unit='transferengine.service'
Jan 10 16:34:18 Sailfish systemd[1102]: Starting Transfer engine...
Jan 10 16:34:18 Sailfish dbus-daemon[1150]: Successfully activated service 'org.nemo.transferengine'
Jan 10 16:34:18 Sailfish systemd[1102]: Started Transfer engine.

But the IMAP communication is suspicious, at least too fast to get any real data:

Jan 10 16:34:20 Sailfish Msgsrv[1216]: [Debug] IMAP : "1" SEND a004 XLIST "" "*"
Jan 10 16:34:20 Sailfish Msgsrv[1216]: [Debug] IMAP : "1" RECV: a004 OK Completed (0.000 secs)
Jan 10 16:34:20 Sailfish Msgsrv[1216]: [Debug] Messaging : Action completed 24111946399745 result success

That's very odd. Any idea what might be causing this? Very frustrating to have lost access to email from my phone, I had become used to having it :(

I think this can be marked as SOLVED. I'll try to reach Kolab to ask about what they changed.

Indeed, it's working now. I'll close the issue.

here we go again, kolabnow/imap stopped working this morning (25.01.)... works with K9 client guess something needs to be fixed on Jolla side.

Wondering if this is kolabnow specific if that used to work.

Could try to get some debug if there's anything interesting showing up: https://sailfishos.org/wiki/Sailfish_OS_Cheat_Sheet#Diagnostics Primarily journal and QMF.

same here - imap on kolabnow stopped working on 2/1/2019 (sony xperia & jolla c). my other account (exchange/zimbra) still works. any ideas how to debug this? 18/1/19 works again - was it the updated OS?

Can't have been fixed by an update - because I never installed any! Most likely something on the KolabNow side, which has now been fixed.

Same here, also KolabNow. I will try to gather some debugging data later today.

Same here; also on KolabNow, deleting & recreating account makes no difference.

Aaaand just as suddenly as emails stopped working they're back again - just picked up my Jolla and was greeted by a bunch of emails, and a full inbox etc. Since I haven't changed any settings, or installed any updates, it appears this must have been an issue on the Kolabnow side. A frustrating two weeks spent without email access on my phone showed me how dependent I've become on it!

It's funny to get this comment as the first email on my Xperia X after days of email not working.

Have you configured your e-mail, but it still doesn’t work although you have followed instructions? Note: For e-mail, you need a working internet connection. Open the browser, and go to www.google.ie to check the internet connection. Is internet not working? See setup internet on your phone to check the settings on the Sony Xperia XZ.
