[Question] 2-year warranty in EU [answered]

Hello,

I am aware of the closed question here, but I have doubts about the answer. As far as I know, most of the goods (certainly things like phones and laptops) you buy in EU have 2-year warranty period as one can read e.g. here and it should not matter whether I am a citizen of EU (which I am) or not.

I would like to buy Jolla in the near future but 1-year warranty is putting me off. Can I get an opinion from someone at Jolla about why they don't provide 2-years and how is this in accordance with European law? Thank you.

I am not sure about EU law, but Swedish law gives me 3 years warranty against design and manufacturing flaws. This is on top of any factory guarantees made by the manufacturer. So I can dsregard any manufacturer guarantees, they are only important if they give me more than the law does, and they hardly ever do.

That was my theory as well. It just seems confusing from Jolla to advertise 1-year warranty when in any case we buy the phone in an EU country and at least 2-years apply. Thank you for your input.

As you say, this question was answered already and you have multiple points of view. If you ever have a problem (e.g., one year has past, you experience an issue and Jolla doesn't want to listen to your claim on reasonable grounds), then you can litigate.
I suggest we close this question as duplicate or reopen the original one if you believe that there are more aspects to analyse.

The previous question had narrower scope that's why I opened a new one. But I am closing it since I find the answers from you and 00prometheus satisfactory.
