Use-case: I'm writing a mail, I do a sloppy motion that's interpreted by Sailfish as a left-to-right ("back") swipe, which really wasn't what I wanted to do.

This unceremoniously discards my message. Not nice; in fact I'm considering this a bug; a device should never drop user data without warning, IMHO.

I see three options:

  1. Either somehow intercept that swipe and get the user to either: a) confirm the discard, b) save to drafts, c) continue working on the message

  2. Or automatically save the message in a Drafts folder

  3. Or a remorse timer. If the user clicks it, go back to the compose view

I like option #1, but all three would work.

Same issue with txt messages as well.

Actually if Jolla supports multitasking this is essential feature. You cannot read what was written in other message without discarding your current content.

I like 1. and 2. more than 3. because last doesn't make postponing possible. Anyway, the current solution basically prevents multitasking which is bad. The solution should work the same way for SMS too.

I'd prefer 2. This is how Google Mail does it.

PLEASE do something about this soon! Loosing email drafts is a major annoyance. It just happened the 2nd time for me with a quite long carefully written text. Booom, all gone.

This issue is here since 27 of December '13, I understand that you have much work, but... boom :-(((

PS: Or why don't you open source your core apps like e.g. email such that the community could fix it! (see https://together.jolla.com/question/34717/open-source-the-email-client/)

Yes. But for me, option 3 will be more Sailfish like.

I dont think that option 3 is safe enogh unless you are looking at the screen and focused on the task. Sometimes you are commuting to work, train/bus stops you need to hurry up, leave your email half written and get off the train/bus. So you get the remorse timer warning you, 5 seconds, and gone. You could miss it while you are busy with other things. Emails with important bussiness information that needs to be sent at an specific time would care little if it is sailfish-esque the warning or not

OK, the draft is now saved and so formally this issue is adressed. But then after being saved? It can't be edited or sent. So what is this solution good for?

Dietmar ( 2015-02-05 19:32:17 +0300 )edit

@Dietmar - Why it can be edited ? if you open it from the drafts folder it should be in edit mode and you can send it after.

VDVsx ( 2015-02-06 08:25:12 +0300 )edit

Do you have an Exchange account? There are reports that with Exchange it's working as expected. For POP3/SMTP it does not.

Dietmar ( 2015-02-06 19:27:04 +0300 )edit

@Dietmar - Yup just tried and is broken for POP(POP folders are all local, exception to Inbox), works for IMAP/Exchange, seems like there are not many POP users around, it wasn't be report before(at least I didn't see it), anyway created a internal report for this issue.
