Update 1.0.7.16 brings the "show images" function in e-mail. By default the client doesn't download remote images, which is a necessity for privacy.

This works for e-mail containing remote images; pressing the "show images" button indeed downloads and shows those images. However, even if the images are embedded in the e-mail the "show images" option appears, which is unnecessary, as there is no privacy issue. Moreover, even when pressed those embedded images are not shown. Instead, a picture of a boxed question mark is shown.

Suggested: show embedded images by default. This is default behavior of many desktop clients.

No, inline images do not trigger that for sure, that button is shown upon a network request, we block everything that is remote content, not necessarily visible to the user.

Your second problem is a duplicate of: https://together.jolla.com/question/4418/html-email-with-attached-pictures/

Really sure? I've just sent myself an HTML mail with inline, embedded image () and no external stuff at all. Viewing this on Jolla, I get the "show image" banner. Clicking it yields the question mark in blue box. The same behavior as with other mails.

@Fuzzillogic - Well sent one like that to me(vdvtest100 at gmail dot com), I can check the HTML, but this button is only shown upon a request to go online from emalil viewer(webkit).

Can reproduce with your mail, webkit tries to go online(to fetch a cid very far from a valid url...) since the content is not available locally due to mentioned issue above, should not happen anymore when inline images are properly displayed. Thx for the mail.

After gathering some feedback we decide to show this banner even for images that are embedded in the email, since most users don't understand the difference and these still need to be downloaded in most cases. Implemented in 1.1.1.26, Vaarainjärvi, if you have any issues related to this feature please comment here.

I'm not most users - that's why I bought a Jolla - and I do not like this solution. The issue of showing images is twofold: to prevent wasting precious bytes on potentially useless images, and to protect privacy. Desktop clients I'm aware of specifically block remote images for the latter reason. For embedded images, neither are an issue. There's no reason not to show them.

Please reconsider the current behavior.

[edit] even my webmail shows embedded images, blocks remote images, and instead displays a banner with the reason (privacy) and the option to download the images. It confuses me why you think this behavior confuses "most users", as it is the default in many desktop clients, including Outlook, and apparently webmail as well.
