This article talks about that "You will soon be able turn your Android device into a Sailfish device"

Jolla pioneered the ability to use existing Android hardware adaptations with the libhybris project and the first Jolla device is built upon an Android hardware adaptation (but is not Android, just uses the hardware adaptation)

What devices would you like to see SailfishOS on - what chipset, how much RAM, how big internal storage, what resolution and screen size, cores and speed? .. and why?

If a device exists already as an answer, vote it up!

Acer Iconia A1! I don't like Android so would love to use Sailfish in that too! :)

Droid 5, if leaks are true it should be very comparable to current Jolla (S4 dualcore, 1Gb RAM, 16Gb internal) but better screen 720p and HWKB

Should the title read 'Android-based devices'?

I see a lot of demand in the Answer section for Jolla (or nemo) Tablet. But before that happens, you must support landscape first. Please make it happen ;-)

I think this would be a nice improvement for the main Jolla website: allowing people to sign-up with their e-mail and current phone model they would wish to have Sailfish OS on. They could then be announced when Sailfish is available for their phone. I have friends who are interested in this.

A flagship device that was popular some 18 monts ago before whenever a sailfish port is launched. Would provide an excellent motivation for normal people to try Sailfish instead of/before buying a new device ;)

Right now that would have been Samsung Galaxy S3. Or maybe S2 as well, need to check old sales stats.

The Motorola RAZR i (xt890) seems to be an ideal device for an easy port, by his x86 architecture, and his design & great specs. We can buy it for around 110 € non-simlocked in France.

The PuzzlePhone, supported officially by cooperation between Jolla and the Circular Devices company. (Sailfish OS port should supposedly happen as a community project)

What about the HP Touchpad ? While little dated, Android is already running on it and many developers (including me ;-) ) have it lying around.

I'd like that. I mean, webOS is great but:

  • it has been abandoned by hp (Open webOS won't run on the HP Touchpad while Android does already)
  • its gestures are really minimalistic, even compared to the N9

Sony Xperia Z - Sony hardware-design in general is pretty fine and it would fit very good to SailfishOS. AFAIK they are also searching for alternatives beside Android, a cooperation between Jolla and Sony would be like a new and better SonyEricsson ;-)

Today it's Sony (without the Ericsson-part) ;-) That Z2 looks splendid indeed. I wonder how great Sailfish OS would run on these Quad core Snapdragon 800/805 SoC's (no matter what brand).

Sony Z3, It's a nice peace of hardware and water proof. I would like to see Sailfish OS on a quite new flagship.

On an iPhone. Maybe after it, the iPhone would commit selfdestruction :-)

:)) This is hilarious. Wish it were true, though... :)) On a little more serious note, a "buyback" program for iPhones replaced by Jollas would be interesting.

Would be nice..... Good hardware.....Good size (4").... Stil got one lying around now Jolla is my primary phone.

BoertjE ( 2014-05-15 18:18:48 +0300 )edit

Actually it would be great to have it on an Iphone. Even better, on an Ipod, great size for one-handed use.

I would love to see SailfishOS easily installed on the top HW in 6 months after HW release. As Jolla company seems to not have the possibility to release quality build, top of the line device - the logical choice to satisfy the needs of its customers can be using other manufacturers devices. And when I say "top HW" I do not mean CPU - I have in mind top built quality, materials, screen, ergonomics, accessories etc. So all current flagship devices - HTC One, Sony Z2, LG G3, OnePlusOne shall be target. Also as Jolla can afford to release only one device per 2 years and customers need variety and smaller screens - HTC One mini, SONY Z1 compact etc.

PS. May be somebody had already proposed this.
