Unfortunately Whatsapp won't officially support SailfishOS anytime in the forseeable future. Also Nokia N9 never got an official client despite numerous votes at online petitions. Even Windows Phone and Blackberry had to fight to get WhatsApp when they established their new platforms. This is a big problem of such close-sourced, centralized software and we shouldn't use them - yet they're so popular that it is difficult to ignore them. *
So official WhatsApp for Jolla? No. Possibly Jolla can and will improve the Android application layer and how it handles notifications (but I have no idea what's even possible in that regard).
But there is good news: There are 2 native SailfishOS apps called Mitakuuluu and WhatsUp which is are 100% usable WhatsApp clients. **
IMPORTANT: Be careful when using Warehouse and be aware of the issues it can cause - and if not, I don't recommend to use it. Make sure you follow instructions and if necessary delete apps / disable repositories which could harm your next Sailfish OS upgrade!
*Telegram is very similar to WhatsApp, offers a public API and thus allows 3rd party clients. Unfortunately there is no mature SailfishOS client available yet: https://together.jolla.com/question/23838/app-request-client-for-telegram/
*WhatsApp doesn't like it when you use unofficial 3rd party apps and could block you (many users were blocked in the past!). Be aware of that risk when using above mentioned apps.*
[Edit: Updated answer & mention of risks]
I don't think so... At least not until there are much more sold Sailfish OS devices. Why don't you try Mitakuuluu (openrepos.net)?
torcida ( 2014-10-06 13:08:19 +0200 )editYes, I had this option. But is it necessary that all my friends should also be using Mitakuuluu? most of them are in WhatsApp. How do I solve this problem?
Vinayadr ( 2014-10-06 13:11:45 +0200 )editThere is a native WhatAp* client for our beloved Jollas named Mitäkuuluu. Anyway it is not aviailable on the Jolla Store but on OpenRepos - just install Warehouse and enjoy a bunch of native apps.
Alex ( 2014-10-06 13:11:55 +0200 )edit@Vinayadr Mitäkuuluu IS a WhatsAp* client so it is accessing the 'real' WhatsAp* servers and you are able to use the 'original' WhatsAp*.
Alex ( 2014-10-06 13:13:24 +0200 )edit@Vinayadr Your friends don't "have to" use Mitakuuluu (unless they buy a Jolla device of course). Mitakuuluu is the name of the unofficial Whatsapp client for Sailfish OS. Just install it and you will be able to contact all your friends
