Every couple of weeks emails stop arriving even though new emails are in the server inbox (can be seen using a different device or PC).

If at this time one opens the Jolla mail client and trigger manual update the inbox shows the new mails. Though, minimising the application shows "Problem with sync".

At this moment the settings are (mentioned only those enabled):

  • Sync: email, contacts (two-way), calendar
  • sync automatically, peak every 15 minutes, off-peak manually, peak days (all)
  • sync old emails: 1 day
  • sync old events: 2 weeks
  • resolve conflicts: priority to server

Next step: open accounts and Microsoft Exchange, disable Contacts synchronisation and save.

Sync is now again working and mails arrive. Re-enabling the contacts sync breaks synchronisation.

Software versions:

  • Server: Exchange 2010
  • JollaOS version: 1.0.8.21 (was happening also with 1.0.8.19)
  • contacts < 500, some of them with avatar

EDIT: fixed in 1.1.1.27 (based on @VDVsx answer and the fact that the bug was not triggered since)

Thanks! I'd been receiving mail on my Exchange account, but the sync was hanging and eventually failing. The status was 'Problem with sync', reporting a last sync time of 10 days ago. I have many repeated numbers in my contacts db. I disabled the contact sync and it's synching just fine now. I'll leave it disabled until update 9, which I hope will make some attempt to fix all our messed up contacts.

See also this, looks related: https://together.jolla.com/question/50860/contacts-synced-from-exchange-server-multiplied/

I have noticed that in People application the number of contacts hasnt change but in outlook/server there are two contacts repeated ~20 times each.

@VDVsx do you know if something has been changed in 1.1.1.27 release wrt this issue?

I'm happy to say that this seems not to be any more a problem for me or at least it has not been triggered for several weeks now. Maybe could closed as fixed in release.

@saturn - Yes, several improvements in contacts side and now from email app only email is synced, contacts and calendar are synced by background process or can be sync from inside the account using the pulley menu.

@VDVsx has asked to comment Exchange sync issues after Sailfish OS version 1.0.3.8 was released here, so closing this one as a duplicate: https://together.jolla.com/question/19030/implemented-in-1038-exchange-syncs-without-respecting-peak-time-settings/

Edit: Also this question is marked as a duplicate for a similar issue: https://together.jolla.com/question/15246/microsoft-exchange-email-push-notifications-not-working/

That question can also be reopened, if this is found to be a new bug

IMHO, this is a completely different issue.

Here, I was trying to explain that the sync fails due to an error in the contacts. As soon as this error with the contacts sync appears then the mail sync also fails.

This is happening to me every few weeks and the only solution is to delete the account and recreate it. It is very easy for me to recreate the account and fix it until the next occurrence.

Nevertheless, there is not a notification that the sync fails anywhere unless I have the mail app open and minimised. This is a serious problem for me at least.
