I do think that the phone will get 2.0, and maybe before the tablet, as SW releases are not chained to HW releases. I would even think that the phone will serve as a test platform for 2.0.

Yeah, completely agree with you (middle-east politics aside :). ARM is giving serious competition to Intel and Intel has been forced to heavily subsidize these Intel based tablets and phones. In fact, some analysts are publicly saying that they are actually selling it at a loss. I keep track of Chinese tablets and suddenly find that it is flooded with intel-based Windows and Android tablets. Intel (and Microsoft) also seem to spending a lot on heavily promoting these tablets. Good for Jolla that they are using this opportunity to get Intel to subsidize their tablet, but do note that many of your users would prefer you stick with, and support ARM processors.

New Atom SoC is quite competitive in both performance wise and energy efficiency wise. Missing part is integrated LTE modem, so there cannot be an Atom based single chip design with LTE/GSM functions. It's not that big issue on tablet but obviously it's not suitable for a mobile phone. My experience with older Atom based tablets have been good so far and new generation Atom's have much more grunt than those. Also, as we have seen with our Jolla phones, Qualcomm has restricted several essential bits of software (which has been source of many annoyances in this community), my bet is that Intel is more flexible on that part. Other guess is that Intel can offer high performance SoC on more affordable price for Jolla/subcontractor, which enables competitive pricing - this is very essential for Sailfish OS to gain more ground in the market.

I won't go deeper into middle east politics, but I'm happy to buy products from Israel based companies, or companies that have presence there. Besides, ARM Holdings and Qualcomm also have offices in Israel. There's a reason why such companies invest in Israel...

They're not competitive. If you compare the A53/A57 generation of chips with the current Atom 22nm chips (or next year's 14nm) ones they're just about competitive in some benchmarks and lose badly in others, and this is at a much higher TDP. Typically the entire chipset for a high performance ARM SoC will have similar TDP to just the CPU/GPU of an Atom based product. Furthermore, price wise, if you take listed bulk prices, the Atoms are 2-4x as expensive as more fully featured ARM products, typically. Intel hasn't and won't win a single mobile / tablet deal without enormous price cuts and/or kickbacks. They lose money on each & every single one. They're becoming more aggressive and desperate, going back to anticompetitive practice (like when they couldn't compete on a like for like basis with AMD). ARM is biting huge chunks out of their server business, and will make significant inroads in the corporate desktop space. What's even more ominous for them is that they appear to be cutting low price deals in the server market now, rather than just mobile ... Amazon are rumoured to have received a huge discount on the latest deal and Intel will lose a lot of money on it. They feel that they can't have such a big name going ARM now, or almost everyone else will follow suit. Hence the ludicrous statement from Amazon last week about ARM lacking performance and not being ready or cost effective for their stated purpose .. when for the application they wanted, it's immensely cheaper to buy, accommodate and maintain, and when comparing density offers far more capacity / performance.

Re: Israel, there is a very big difference between having offices there and investing 10s of billions .. and the reason why companies like Intel do it is because of immense political and economic pressure in the US to appease Israel, tax breaks also help.If you think it's a good place to conduct research, I'd suggest the years of formal and informal academic boycotts have made it anything but.

Depends on what Atom is in comparison. Silvermont-architecture based cores are quite good and capable chips, they can be safely compared to Snapdragons. Maybe you should actually take a look at those benchmarks. Of course Intel is far behind on market share, mostly due to lack of integrated modem functions on SoC, this is about to change next year. Intel will pay dearly for that market share and Jolla is one of many companies exploiting that opportunity. Your claims on Intel's server side problems are mostly unfounded, however I won't comment on server side of things because it would lead the discussion too much offtopic. On formal and informal boycotts (and other stupid, dishonest and mostly hypocritical stunts performed by people more active on politics rather than actual science and research) they don't seem to have much effect because Israel still has many of the best brains. Some of Intel's most successful architectures have been designed in department of Israel, so it really doesn't take some political conspiracy theory to explain why many high-tech companies have presence and investments there. This will be my final comment on politics, as I don't want to turn TJC to another poisonous mud slinging platform for conflict that will never end. On technical side we can argue if you wish.

Still no official notion of this fact, while hardware requests keep popping up. I think a lot of people will be disappointed if this fact isn't emphasized by the company.

PengPod definitely was croundfunded ( = money for production was collected by crowd), but here's accent on croudsourcing ( = created by crowd). Croudsourcing part in Jolla Tablet project is collecting ideas and requests on tablet's software part. Was there this kind of crowdsourcing on PengPod project?
