I'm new to jolla, the only 2 things I really use my phone for are facebook (full of bugs) and maps for driving. But both the jolla maps, and the google maps I downloaded don't seem to move in current time?

All they do is show a list of instructions/steps, and a picture with a start point and end point. And yes I've got all my settings to be able to track where I am etc

I use my phone as a sat-nav, and have always used iphone maps, notorious for working well, showing all the roads, where abouts you are, the car moving, the text also being spoken out loud. So are both these 2 maps broke or am I just missing something obvious?

google maps doesnt even let you sign in, it says sign in to make it quicker, you click sign in, add new account, and nothing happens

Seems to be a duplicate or mostly overkapping with this (where similar discussion abt the maps solution(s) for Jolla are addressed); https://together.jolla.com/question/339/downloadable-map-data-and-offline-turn-by-turn-navigation-in-maps/

Can't you tap at the map when you are at the view of a list of instructions/steps, and a picture with a start point and end point, and after that tap and hold on screen to focus on your current position? Then it should lock on you and follow you when you move and show the route on map. Still doesn't give you turn by turn instructions but at least it should show your location in realtime over the map.

try GPSinfo from warehouse - if you got your position, start e.g. osmand (don't close GPSinfo)
everything should work

NavFree - Free GPS navigation from Navmii works fine with Jolla. I recommend to try.

  • +Localized
  • +Precious and intuitive UI
  • +Free maps (OSM)
  • -Voice instructions are too quiet

Android version of Ozi Explorer does work. So do Yandex Maps. Not tried PathAway yet, but chances are great enough that it will work, too, once GPS interface is mapped correctly into the pseudo-Android environment.

Write to their respective developers asking for native Sailfish port! Hardly they'll do anything unless they see the customers' demand.

Yet keep in mind that GPS is an power-hungry hardware and app, it will drain the tiny Jolla battery pretty soon. If there were a bigger battery, it would make sense - but what we have right now is just a proof-of-concept. A successful one, I'd say.

I tried Sygic in Dec but never got a working GPS fix for more then one or two minutes - how you get it to work

@elastic: Actually, I’ve had after last update problems using it; I’m not sure whether it’s about whole Jolla or just Android support, it seems that GPS sometimes don’t get enabled when it should be. It used to work well in past though.

FWIW, I kind of found out a workaround, that is using the GPS inspection application to initialize the GPS, afterwards GPS works in navigation softwares without problems... It takes some minutes, so I assume it’s either lagging somewhere or it’s not using GSM as alternative source at all...

Can someone please help? None of the ones mentioned work - Jolla maps, here, google maps, osmand

None have showed even any sign of actually being on a road and it moving whilst you drive like the maps on an iphone do. I need my phone as a satnav and will be returning if I cant get this sorted soon

Have you enabled the GPS in Settings? It's in System -> Location.

Seems like you have problems with your GPS. Have you tried any GPS-checking app? Can any other app show you location?

I have Osmand (free version) from Google play but the navigation doesn't work with with Sailfish 1.1.2.16. It is not the GPS it is the voice navigation that doesn't work. It shows navigation instructions on screen and it follows me along, but it doesn't say anything. And yes I have enabled the sound and downloaded a voice file. I think this worked fine with an earlier version of Sailfish but I didn't use it very much.

Google maps doesn't work either. It looses GPS signal when I start navigation! Before that it gets GPS info. Navigating with Google maps and using Jolla maps at the same time results in a lost GPS signal for Google but not for Jolla. Google maps worked for me three (Google maps) updates earlier. Not any longer.

I'm currently using CoPilot (paid version). And its navigation works, except that sometimes when it paused my Podcast-player it failed to start it again.
