Would be useful to draw up a list of existing patches that are working or not working (or even unnecessary) with OS upgrade 15 (for instance with a "w/n/u" attribute). I didn't upgrade yet, as it's a no return move and patch compatibility is a significant criterion before I take the plunge (many patches are integral part of my user experience). Here is a not exhaustive list:

  • Select text in Browser
  • SailfishOS calendar patch
  • Upcoming events in calendar cover
  • Wall clock
  • Zoom patch
  • Battery status bar on lockscreen
  • Eventsview controls patch with settings
  • Launcher combined patches
  • Lockscreen player controls
  • Meecast widget
  • Disable volume warning

Then why are you part of the early adopter group? Let the developers test their patches against the Pre-Release and trust them to make sure they still work when the stable upgrade comes.

I joined the early adopter group ten months ago: at the time, OS upgrades were much less risky on my point of view because (a) my device was basically set to default, (b) I hadn't decided at this time to adopt Jolla as my primary device. Today it's different. If I mess it up or if I brick it, would be really a serious problem. Still part of early adopter group mainly to be kept informed on updates. I may also mention this: the Jolla team of OS development might be interested in the fact that some users attach some value to some patches that bring some improvement in their user experience...

"Still part of early adopter group mainly to be kept informed on updates."??? Read TJC maybe?

Obviously, I'm a regular TJC reader. I was just thinking that relevant answers to my question could be useful not only for me but for other users too. Apparently I was wrong. Next time I will try to keep silent.

Most probably, Andreï (CodeRus) will update his patches only when SFOS 1.1.6.xx will be released for everybody. This is a professional policy.

To preserve my user experience, I will apply system upgrade only when this is not harmful to my customized GUI. This is a reasonable user policy.

The main issues with patches, even when they are "must-have", are:

  1. Will Jolla endorse them by including them in SFOS?
  2. Will the authors maintain them, mainly by providing long term compatibility with current OS version?

Sadly, as the answers to both questions are "No", OS upgrades are currently harmful to our user experience.

Example: the standard eventsview, almost useless without the patch "Eventsview controls patch with settings", unfortunately not compatible with SFOS 1.1.6.27 and no longer maintained by its author.

Eventsview controls patch with settings and launcher combined patch now updated by CodeRus (1.1.6.xx compatible). Time to upgrade.
