Referring to this question, because I am facing the same problem right now. I can see there are updates, but all it says in Google Play Store is "Download pending" which may have to do with what is mentioned in this article.

One of the apps is completely blocked from running because it must update to the new version (because of security issues).

Does anyone know if Google now is blocking uncertified devices from app updates from the play store ?

Does anyone know how to downgrade the Google Playstore app on Sailfish OS ?

Device : Intex Aqua Fish Sailfish OS: 2.0.5.6 (Haapajoki)

I too have the latest and it works fine. But maybe a couple of months ago I had the same issue as you. Restarted alien dalvik, rebooted the phone, cleared caches from the play store app, nothing fixed it. But then I just left it, and it had fixed itself the next day I think. Doesn't help in diagnosing the problem I guess, but perhaps "wait and see"?

Even after downgrading, play store updates to latest version within seconds.

You could try an alternative store to download apks from the playstore like the yalp store that you can get from fdroid. This allows you to use your google account to login and download your apps or updates from the playstore.

Thanks.this is indeed working. For others some more information: I downloaded and installed the latest apk from this link. I did not try the F-droid application (yet) but may give that a try as well.

Some applications I have installed are not available outside Google Play Store. So installing F-droid or any other alternative repository is not a solution. Yalp store workaround seems to work, although this is a workaround to play store and I don't think this works for paid apps.

Note that it requires violating Google's ToS and theoretically can get your account disabled. It does however work, unlike Play Store :)

Downgrading the Play Store App and changing its attribute explained in this link,will solve "download pending" issue.

Initially it looked very promising, #but1 effectively the Play Store upgraded straight into 11.2.14 about 1h later ( according to the event screen message ). The Play Store just ignored its "opted out" automatic update settings ....

#but2 : the chattr-ed apk whithstood d (^_^) .....

The undesired update left intact the classic "Play Store" icon in the app launcher, #but3 added an empty icon named "vending", which must be deleted every time one experiences the "pending download" issue ....

Maybe s.o. would find a way of controlling the Play Store's background activity via API :

Android-running allow restrictions of background transfers via Settings > Network & Internet > Data Usage. From the lists one can turn off specifically Google Play's background activity which should prevent it from unwanted updating ....

I did an install of OpenGApps. I then had the google play store icon in the menu, but still not able to get rid of the "download pening" problem, even after rebooting the device. Now I just uninstalled OpenGApps and checked if the icon was gone from the menu.

Then I did another install of OpenGApps and as soon as Warehouse said installing (after download finished), I switched off the WiFi and mobile data (to prevent from updates downloading during install)

When installation was ready, I switched on WiFi and mobile data and I was able to start Google Play Store from the icon in the menu. Switched off WiFi and mobile data right after play store started.

In Google Play Store settings I can see version 7.7.31.O-all [0] [PR] 153394623 which is the latest AFAIK. After switching back on the WiFi and mobile data, I tried to update an app, and surprisingly it did update normally.

@vitaminj was right .... "just wait and see" ... no idea why it fails for days and suddenly started working again

Edit April 22, 2017: Just now I opened google play store on my Intex Aqua Fish where I can see that 2 updates are available. Pressing the update button brings me back to the original problem .... Download pending .... and not any download progress. To me it starts looking like Google is experimenting and testing with blocking downloads for uncertified devices.

I think there is at least one example showing that Google allows app publishers to block Aliendalvik. Have a look at "CBC mobile banking". Previous versions were working perfectly with Jolla. Last month a new version was released: its only new "feature" is being not Jolla compatible, not available with Yalp. Of course, older versions are also blocked by the bank.

(this app is only for CBC customers of course, but everyone can install it provided the device isn't Jolla)

Maybe it's a different reason. I can't install some apps as Sailfish Aliendalvik is Android 4.x compatible and the apps require more current Android

Obviously, the reason isn't technical (the app can be installed onto any 4.x Android except Jolla). This was more or less confirmed on the phone by CBC customer support. They just don't want their app to be run on devices Google can't access or can't "certify".

I too face this problem. It seems the reason is google decided to stop access of uncertified devices to the play store. The new version of Play store says the device is uncertified.

I found a work around in my Aqua Fish. Go to aptoid- which comes pre-installed. Unistall play store from there. It downgrades play store to old version. Now get to play store and update/install the apps you want. Play store will update automatically the next time yoy open it. But you can keep it open to prevent updating.

Not a good solution, but does the job. :)

The workaround works for me and Jolla would not be the same without its community that provide the fast solutions. Nevertheless this solution is very unsatisfying, because many apps are only available for Android and distributed via Play Store. Especially paid apps use Play store and there are many apps I am very interested in. Yes, I pay for apps, because developers need to eat, too, and then less commercials are shown within the app. There should be an official solution between Jolla and Google to have official access to the Play Store.

I know, but this is not sustainable. The next attempt to block updates will come, maybe in future Google only allows to update with the newest version of Play Store? As long as Google provides more than 90% of all Android apps, there must be an official solution for this problem.

Remember: Google Services are NOT supported by jolla. They will not fix that.

if its blocked from playstore the pgone gets more and more useless. i need playstore because i need my companys Exchange account. the buildin is not working because the server needs the PIN-securityfeature. there arw to many functions missing and it.was enough time (i have one of the jolla first one an now aquafish with jolla c software) it is a very nice system but there are no devices and sofware is missinh features. i will try to get a bb prime. as a n900 user i realy miss tje hardwarekeyboard.

Check this one: cant-download-apps-from-play-store/ For me in Jolla C and Tablet (2.1.0.11) Play Store 7.6.08.N is last one that works. With Jolla CI used "OpenGApps Pico Installer" in Warehouse by Coderus to go back to old version.

Done that. Now I see an play store icon in the menu which was never in the menu before even though the play store was installed. I cannot open the play store with this play store icon. Because I have updated the apps already with Yalp, I cannot test if the play store version is indeed working fine. I will wait for the next "forced" update for that particular app and see if I can update it through the playstore again as I did normally. Then I will also come back here, for feedback.

I did an uninstall of OpenGApps and another install. Google Play store installed is 7.7.31.O-all [0] [PR] 153394623 and strange but true it does download apps again.

I have the same problem (download pending) on Jolla C but NOT on Jolla 1. Downgrading did not solve the problem either, using Yalp in the meantime. Jolla C: Google Play 7.7.31.0-all, Google Services 10.5.55 Jolla 1: Google Play 7.7.31.0-all, Google Services 10.2.98

Yes I have same kind of issue. Jolla 1 works perfect Intex not. I check versions and install same versions to Intex but it didn't help.

Same experience here. I just updated my old Jolla1 to latest Sailfish, and in that Play Store updates apps. Same version of Play Store in Jolla C does not download!?

I installed the update, rebooted. After that the play store icon is not in the menu any-more which I had in the previous version. I must say that I also did not have the play store icon in the menu before I installed the OpenGApps at all.

This is a bit inconsistent policy from Google, since although the Play Store refuses to update my apps - presumably because of that "uncertified" status - some apps (e.g. WhatsApp), that are capable to update themselves, succeed doing that !?
