Hello,

I'm a proud owner of Jolla1 and XperiaX running Sailfish OS 2.1.3.7. This OS is amazing and I wouldn't change it for any reason but...

On the Jolla1 phone, I used to experience from time to time (say once a month in average) the symptoms described in the threads below:

I first thought the problem was related to the SIM card or to the socket that holds it. I changed the SIM but the problem persisted. Then came the XperiaX and I thought it would be a good opportunity to renew the Jolla1 device with the XperiaX and test it :-) . Alas, the problem persisted ! It became even worse when I went on holiday in France during Xmas (I'm living in Switherland). As soon as I crossed the border, the XperiaX displayed the greyed square in place of the usual network strength icon (see image https://postimg.org/image/3wwnua3r1/). These threads describe the issue:

When the problem occur (image https://postimg.org/image/3wwnua3r1/), I can still recieve phone calls but cannot place calls nor send SMS nor use the mobile data. A reboot does fix the problem but not allways. Sometimes 3 reboots are necessary.

As I said, I love Jolla phone and Sony is a very nice sourcing choice but for now I moved back to Android because of these issues.

I'm willing to help and collaborate whith someone to solve this issue, I know well linux for using it since a long time. Is there a way to capture logs and then send them for verifications to a developper (just an idea :-) )? I also recognize it is not easy to solve an issue that doesn't happen systematically. But with the roaming issue, next time I'm crossing the border I'll be able to reproduce the issue.

HTH, Pascal.

FYI: I live in Switzerland and use Aldi Mobile as provider who is operated by Sunrise Mobile, one of the 3 mobile operators licenced in Switzerland (Salt, Swisscom, Sunrise).

I suggest you to gather logs from ofono, see https://together.jolla.com/question/175286/howto-enable-debug-mode-with-ofono/ related answers.

I have more or less same symptoms.

  • after used wlan at work (or more recently anywhere) and then loosing the wlan, the phone doesn't connect to mobile data (when starting ofono logging, there log is empty, after switching flight mode off/on the log starts again) So ofono had crashed?. Still most of the time flighmode doesn't bring mobile data back, only reboot does.
  • I can't connect to 4G at all (Salt Switzerland), 3G works
  • Damien, the link to ofono log instructions gives me "you don't have permision" error

@Nrde, do you mean this address https://openrepos.net/content/slava/ofono-logger ? It is working for me.

Sorry Damien, it is jovirkku's link that I get the permission error from. Your links work just fine.

Current solutions, from simplest, to the most likely to work :

  • Go in airplane mode and back (sometime that's enough to force reconection)
  • While in airplane mode, restart the networking services (using Sailfish utilities)
  • While in airplane mode, retstart ofono from the command line : systemctl restart ofono.service
  • While in airplane mode, after a restart of ofono, eject the SIM tray and re-insert it (don't forget to unmount any mounted SD card partition)
  • Works 100% of time but cumbersome : restart the smartphone
  • Wait for Sailfish 2.1.4.x upgrade, it's supposed to fix these problems.

I have this bug too and it is very annoing, but there are so many nearly identical threads here. Your text is nice, but is a duplicate to multiple others! Also if there are ten more threads, jolla has seen it already or they wont care because of yours.

Hi all,

I've captured a couple of situations using the oFono Logger app on the Xperia:

  • Rebooted the phone, started the log capture, lost mobile network ofono_2018-02-11_103305.zip
  • rebooted the phone, started the log capture, got the connexion to the carrier, 13h28 crossing the border belgian -> luxemburg, then lost of mobile network. ofono_2018-02-11_125917.zip
  • rebooted the phone, network lost and around 13h46 got the mobile network again without any manual intervention. ofono_2018-02-11_134402.zip

I hope this could help troubleshooting the problem.

I have same issue in my 4 years old Jolla. I used DNA and Saunalahti connections but network suddenly disappears and does not work until I restart or sometimes have to restart multiple times. It is inconvenient because I dont even realize that my phone is not working and people try to call me or text me meanwhile. I will try above methods but ofcourse an update will be great to get rid of this bug!

Hello,

Sorry Jolla, I failed to wait any longer for the fix ;-)

I found this very nice ROM for Xperia X: OmniROM. Very stable !! Coupled with the application Camera it is transforming the smartphone into a DSLR reflex-like camera :-) If you are a photography anthousiast, you should try it !

BTW, phone and mobile data works too.

I'll be back to jolla maybe later ;-) CHeers!

Doesn't this just have the same old Google dependencies as regular Android?

It is a good question and probably would require it's own thead to discuss it. ;-)

Hey =)

Same problem now occurs with my jolla-1 too, few weeks after the last update, so it might not be related with update. Randomly network is lost. Reboot helps after 1-3 times. I tried: devel-su mv /var/lib/connman /var/lib/connman.bak

didnt seem to help.

Sometimes whole day nothing happens, but in the morning connection and reception is gone. Other times it will loose connection 5mins after reboot. Now trying other stuff. Soon will try reset. Im already blaming that my 3,5 year old phones hardware starts to fail.

Thx for help! =)
