This is intended to collect android apps and other new features (camera quality, bluetooth, NFC, etc...) working on the XA2 series with the new Sailfish X and AlienDalvik for Android 8.1 compatibility. It might help the developers, especially in beta phase. And it helps potential users and users of other Jolla phones to make an educated decision whether it suits their needs.

Sailfish X - General

• Almost continuous minor stuttering in both native and Android UI (XA2 dual sim / 3.0.1 / 2019-02-03)

• Hotspot (wifi-sharing) only works correctly when the password has been changed at least once. (3.0.1.14 / 2019-02-09)

• No delivery reports for SMS. Confirmed for multiple variants on 2019-02-22

  • Frequently, after reboot, no network/signal is detected. Workaround In Settings, disable SIM then re-enable (XA2 Dual SIM [3.0.1.14])

  • Bluetooth keyboards work (XA2 Dual SIM H4413 [3.2.0]) but are barely usable in Android (stuttering keys and dropouts)

  • Bluetooth battery indication is not compiled in: https://together.jolla.com/question/202950/xa2-bluetooth-keyboard-pairs-but-disconnects/. This should be easy to fix, I guess? (XA2 Dual Sim [3.0.2.8])

Sailfish X - Sensors

• Fingerprint reader - working (XA2 single/double sim [3.1.0.11]), but seems to consume a lot of battery (minus ~20% overnight VS minus ~5% with sensor off - https://together.jolla.com/question/210790/stronger-battery-drain-since-310-seitseminen/?answer=212698#post-id-212698).
• GPS - working (XA2 Dual SIM H4113); took a long while until GPS position was found initialy, since then it is fine
• GPS - partially working (XA2 Plus Dual SIM H4113); Intial position quick, but half speed displayed (native apps & android apps)
• Compass - working (XA2 Dual SIM H4413). Needs calibration (e.g. from within Jussi Vuorisalmi's compass app) before results make sense.
• Proximity Sensor - currently buggy (either triple-press the bower butten or see workaround here)

• Flip cover - The flip cover doesn't work as expected during calls (link)

• earphone jack - (XA2 single sim [3.2.1.20]) finaly works without problems. Looks like some layers of the male 3,5 plug were not supported or defined (link)

• handsfree set - set with a mic and volume +/- buttons works well on XA2 Dual sim; set with answer button is not tested.

Sailfish X - Apps

• Browser (Native) - Playback of videos are not working i dr.dk (National TV). After 10 sec. of viewing, view will be zoomed in and playback speed will be changed.

  • Camera - When a picture is taken, the preview is shown and after that the camera takes the actual photo. If the phone is moved during the preview animation or right after that it will lead in to a blurry photo.
• Take the photo when the camera button (SW or HW) is pressend and then show the preview animation, or

• Take the photo and simultaneously show the preview animation

• Slightly better performance on the camera in [3.0.2.8], still the photo gets blurred if the phone is moved after taking the photo.

  • Situations - Cannot sense which cell towers are in range. Possibly related to this bug? ([3.0.3.8] / 2019-04-26)
  • Predictive text input - if you type a text, and immediately start typing another one, the new one will start and begin with the last typed word from the previous text (only noticed with Android apps ex: WhatsApp)

Aliendalvik Android™ support - General

• Sailfish Contacts show up in Android Apps, Calenders not.

• Actually, Sailfish contacts do only partially show up in Signal

• No access to SD card.

• Photos taken with android camera apps show up double in android galleries (at least if the are displayed by folder)

• Sometimes open/running androids apps appcomplaintear double on main sailfish screen

• Sometimes opening/running android apps, screen goes all black. Pressing the on/off button flashes an image of the android app, then turns off screen again. A second press sends you back to the lock screen.

• SCP/rsync to ~nemo/android_storage causes aliendalvik crash

• sometimes android system notifications pop up ("app X is using battery" / low battery warnings)

• "Allow app background process to be started on boot" (loosely translated from Finnish) isn't respected. If the setting is off, the app will still start which will increase the memory usage a lot.

• Edit: For reference, here's two screenshots from my "usual" home screen. First one is with the Android support turned off, second one is with the Android support on, without opening any additional apps (ok, CargoDock open...):

• Copy and paste does not work from Android to Sailfish (as stated in release notes) but some users report it also does not work the other way around. ([3.0.1.14] / 2019-02-09)

• Text-To-Speech seems broken. With OSMAnd and BikeCitizen it does not work. Also when navigating with here maps several popups appear that "TinyTTS" stopped working.

• Display blanks even when viewing videos or during navigation. It seems Android apps can't prevent screen blanking at the moment. ([3.0.3.8] / 2019-04-26)

• Screen goes blank when stopping Android support ([3.0.3.8] / 2019-04-25)

• Automatic Rotation of the screen: when turning the phone from portrait to landscape, pressing your finger on the screen prevents the Automatic Rotation from happening only as long as you keep your finger there. Once you lift it, the Automatic Rotation does happen. Works properly on Sailfish apps. (2019-08-03 still an issue in [3.1.0.11])

• Keyboard sticks to the screen on Android apps. On Jolla 1 and Jolla C and Jolla Tablet, you could get rid of the keyboard by tapping somewhere else on screen. On Sailfish X, the only way is to background the app and foreground it again. But certain banking apps (e.g. Säästöpankki Tunnistus) seem to reset if they're backgrounded. Which means that you cannot complete the initial login to the app since the proceed button is under the keyboard. (Xperia XA2 Dual Sim, 3.0.2.8, 2019-04-04) [2019-08-03: I managed to get around this issue on 3.1.0.11 on OmaTunnistus app by closing the keyboard by dragging it downwards from the keyboard's top row.]

• Crashes when trying to pair a home device with Eufy Account (Xperia 10 Dual Sim & XA2 Dual Sim [3.3.0.16]). Pairing has to be performed with an Android/iOS phone. Afterwards the app works on Sailfish X without issues.

• file picker doesn't work (opens, but can't make a selection)

Telegram

Tesla App

• @Breeze: "Can't use my phone (XA2 single SIM) as a key on my Tesla Model 3 (uses bluetooth). Can connect with bluetooth for media files, calendar, phonebook and recent calls, but not as a key. Summon and Location doesn't work because of lack of Goolge Play Services. Everything else works fine."

Threema 4.3 (XA2 single & dual sim [3.2.1.20])

• messaging works fine, except threema-web, works just with mobile data see here

• Taking pictures within the app is only working by taping on the camera symbol in the textfield. With the adding attachment and the system camera is not working

• Watching videos requires a small workaround
• QR-code scanner sometime not responding (XA2 Dual Sim [3.2.0.12])

** Zedge. Does not work in XA2 4113. It was earlier possible to enable Jolla tunes for notifications in Android WA and Telegram etc by means of Zedge. Zedge uploaded from Aptoide.

• Aktia Wallet - The most important feature, seeing your credit card information for paying, doesn't open. You can't even pay online (not to mention paying with NFC)

• Bitpanda (XA2 Plus Dual Sim [3.2.0.12]) - starts, but can't login

• DAZN: Sport & Fußball Live Stream - app starts but doesn't load the login page

• TrackerControl (XA2 Mono Sim - h3113[3.3.0.16] dowloaded with Fdroid : 0 tracker observed but Aurora Store says that some android apps have trackers.
• Trainline.eu from Aptoide (XA2 H3113 [3.1.0.11][3.2.1][3.3.0.16]) Can connect on your account but fail on synchronisation of your datas. So impossible to see your previous travels, your future travels, or valid your basket.

• Uber: Cannot be installed (window closes after pressing "install" in the Android App installation widget), XA2 3.2.1.20
• ViaNavigo (France) [XA2 mono sim H3113 - 3.2.1.20] Will never work on a "modified android" :-(
