Q: How can I suggest a new language?
A: Add an answer below, if you have checked it hasn't been requested yet.

Q: My language was added to the translation tool, great thanks! How can others and myself enjoy translating it the most?
A: The answer is here.

Q: My language hasn't been added yet :(
A: Ensure it has a coordinator assigned, and if not, nominate yourself. Then we'll add your language to the tool.

Q: What is a coordinator?
A: The answer is here.

Q: How can I test the translation on my device?
A: Ping @martonmiklos and ask to build an rpm for your language. If desired, the localisation packages will be published on OpenRepos. You could also manage the RPM build by yourself. Here you can find the scripts used for building the current packages.

My native language is not listed. Georgian is my native language. Sailfish OS does not recognize my native language fonts, nor does it have keyboard for it. I have fonts for my language installed on my nexus 4 Sailfish os and they are working well. Also i created keyboard files for Georgian and it works perfectly in Sailfish OS. here are pictures. There are no big and little letters in my language. Only few of them change with shift key. So here is it With shift pressed image description

Without shift image description

How can i contact jolla comunity or someone who can put this fonts and keyboard in this system. Of course i can make little program to do this but it would be better if OS supported my language natively. WP10, Ubuntu phone and Android do support it.

If you have a keyboard and you want to contribute contact Pekka Vuorella. See this thread https://together.jolla.com/question/124266/keyboard-contributions-for-inclusion-in-sfos/

For the fonts i have no idea.

ApB ( 2016-08-11 11:02:10 +0200 )edit

I contacted him. There are some issues. Fonts for my language do not have licence they are kinda free, nobody knows who made them. You can download them from sites. For example www.fonts.ge. I contacted administrator of that site and he told me this. But looks like they can't add Georgian keyboard to this system. I do not know what to do.

AnonUser10082 ( 2017-02-04 21:26:32 +0200 )edit

With a high chance of being wrong the font jolla uses is Droid which i think has a Georgian support.

ApB ( 2017-02-04 23:23:30 +0200 )edit

But when i installed SFOS until i had installed these fonts it could not show me many georgian sites text. After installing these fonts it displayed everything that was on georgian on that sites. I do not undartand much in fonds and unicodes but i can tell that if SFOS has georgian fonts it still needs this fonts to fully support my language.

AnonUser10082 ( 2017-02-04 23:46:55 +0200 )edit

Droid having georgian support and the georgian font being installed in the phone is two different things. If you find Droid Sans Georgian ttf and install it i suspect it will work.

I've seen there are not coordinators for Spanish language, if you want you can add me to this group to support Jolla. I've made some suggestions in SailfishOS and I've translated to Spanish a lot of apps via Transifex and Github

@carmendezfb many thanks for coming forth! You are now the coordinator \o/

It was mentioned here that you miss us, so I nominate myself to do some "skippertak", until someone other and or better comes along. (nb-no, bokmål, to be specific)

You are the best, and you've taken loads of precious time off of our Norwegian sailor \o/ So he can concentrate on developing mission critical things ;)

Telugu is a South Indian language and is the 3rd most spoken language after Hindi and Bengali in India.. @kskarthik is already translating for telugu and I recommend him to be the coordinator.

To "celebrate" the official release of the 2.1.0 I have packaged all community lang packs from the latest pootle status and updated the openrepos packages. Enjoy and let me know if an update is needed.

edit flag offensive delete publish link more

Thanks! Just a small note on the 'all community lang packs' part - the Czech language has 100% (well, 99%, but only because of some empty source strings) of completion too ;-)

nodevel ( 2017-02-09 01:14:19 +0200 )edit

Aye, I wanted to say all maintained by me. :) Czech and Slovak is maintained by @xmlich02

martonmiklos ( 2017-02-09 09:40:31 +0200 )edit

Thanks! There are still a few tiny issues with the translations, such as https://together.jolla.com/question/156387/timestamp-in-email-reply-is-not-completely-accurate-yet/

And the "Ambiences" part still doesn't seem to be translated in the UI, even though all strings are translated on Pootle. ping @sledges

nthn ( 2017-02-09 15:54:44 +0200 )edit

@nthn, @martonmiklos, that is indeed weird. The ID is settings_system-ambiance and they seem to be translated. I'll doublecheck the source codes. E.g. testing on official languages looks OK.

sledges ( 2017-03-14 13:35:47 +0200 )edit

Wait a minute, which part of the UI are you talking about? ;)

I can currently only suggest translation strings but not submit them. How can this be changed?

edit flag offensive delete publish link more

Thank you very much for coming back on the Danish language. If you would like to volunteer as coordinator, you will be able to submit them.

sledges ( 2017-08-08 13:47:32 +0200 )edit

Nice. I would like to :) I've translated tohkbd2, some of CrossOver and a few other projects to Danish to Danish .My speciality is coherent words which they're a lot of in the Danish which needs to be corrected.

Louis ( 2017-08-08 20:48:32 +0200 )edit

Brilliant, you are now the coordinator @Louis, a lot of love is needed in the Danish translations.
