What features do you desperately need?

This is a list of missing features that we desperately need, sorted by votes. Feel free to add more, but only with a proper link to a question, so we can also vote on specific questions.

The Jolla crew uses the tag roadmap to show requested features forming part of a defined plan. There is also a general roadmap and a development roadmap.

Note: The numbers in parantheses {xxx} at the front are the votes each question had collected. If it has an -R after the number it indicates the roadmap tag is present, a -r? indicates the Jolla crew responded positively to the question but the roadmap tag is not present.

EDIT: Automatically updating list here, and the features tracked by Jolla here. As we already have these options via search, there's no need to update the list below. Return to default view here, or manually by removing the filter(s) and sorting questions by activity instead of votes.

EDIT2: There's a similar way to do that for bugs. Requested fixes here, those under work here

EDIT3: Just for fun, here's a list of bug requests ;) (let's work together to remove either of the tags on these)

Last time fully updated on 29 June 2015.

Let's try to keep this updated, at least after each Sailfish release!

While not a roadmap feature, additional keyboard layouts (official that is) is what i'd like to see.

SailFishOS/Firmware updates that don't require the user to open a Jolla account.

  1. Less restrictions for harbour-apps
  2. Better user control over apps access to hardware/data
  3. More API documentation, so things that aren't done by Jolla can be done by others, together with 1, several points on the list could be done by the community.

After the addition of MMS which is great but not really new I'd like to get some features to fill the gap with standard smartphones but also unlike features. Both are mandatory to keep Sailfish and Jolla attractive.

On the standard feature list I will be put on the top of the list:

1) Support of Bluetooth profiles to be able to import People in car player, or to display name and avatar when an incoming call is received. The goal here is to improve usage of Jolla in all situations.

2) Support of non free applications in the Jolla Store. This is mandatory. Developers are not working for free.

3) Because now Nokia is an application development company developing for Windows Phone and Android (thanks to Nokia X), I'd like to be able to buy Nokia apps on Sailfish (Drive, Here, Nokia Mix, etc...).

But all this stuff is not unlike. On the unlike feature list it is more difficult to detail because I want to be surprised. I'd like to see changes in ergonomics (this is more bug fix than new features), privacy management, innovative services.

Could you provide the relevant links to these issues on Together, so I can add them to the list. If they don't exist yet, please create them.

Thanks for the links. The question on store changes is closed, so I didn't add it to the list. The PBAP question was already on the list. I have added the rest.

Add possibility to select and lock default applications in idle screen.

Could select let say six applications which place is locked in idle screen and those are opened automatically to the idle screen after i.e. booting the phone. So there would be stll place for three aplication slots which changes depending applications you use and open.

Nice one. Could you provide a link to an existing question on Together so I can add it to the list? If it doesn't exist yet, please create a new one.

Better Ambiance settings, as in https://together.jolla.com/question/28699/feature-request-show-sounds-of-special-tohs-in-general-in-sound-selection/ Ambiance is a powerful feature, and deserve better visibility, IMHO.

I have some suggestions for the Browser and for the mail client:

The Browser needs more settings, this is e.g. a possibility to only load text and nothing else, no images, no scripts etc. Also when I zoom in I miss that the lines do not break automatically. Right now I use webcat browser because I don't want pictures to be loaded - there it sometimes it is a mess - but also the native browser should be able to do so. Remember Opera mobile, there it wored fine with my n8.

The Mail Client also need a possibility to only load plain text messages especially when there are spam mails but you accidently click on it. Also the text size needs to be costumazible e.g. by zooming in, but when I zoom the text needs to break automatically.

For me these are key features which need to be included for anyone who wants to read news and mails with the phone and which need to be included before suggesting the phone to non techies. I don't know how other sailors think about it but readable pages are really important for me. When I can't read a news because of that and I have to wait until sitting on my computer it sometimes drives me crazy.

And just as a general comment: Although all people always say symbian is antiquated and old and so on, everytime I bought a Symbian device it was a complete and working phone where just minor things needed to be changed to get it working how it should. My wife still has her old n8 and sometimes I wish it back to have some features - until I try to close programms with gestures I am now used to thanks to the Jolla device. All in all I think the Jolla phone is pretty good given the time it exists but there is much room for improvement. e.g. without the patchmanager (openrepos) it always would drive me mad to switch on wlan mobile network or bluetooth. There needs to be a possibility to access most important things from anywhere and the events view is perfect for this.

So sail on and hopefully there will be many improvements on the device.

P.S. Sorry if there are some grammatical or vocabulary mistakes, my english is one thing I could improve

Edit: And a minor thing: I'd like to have some kind of "VIP-Profile". I understand it as follows: When I go to sports e.g. I dont want to be interrupted by calls which can be done later but if my wife wants me to be contactable I want to have a profile or ambience where all ring tones are silent except contacs I determined. That also could be my best friend when I know that he might be in trouble or whatever. On my n8 I categorized my contacts and had a VIP Group and a profile where it only ringed when people of that group tried to call me.

E-mail/Calendar: better support for Exchange-features, like Invitations for meetings with Accept, Decline, Tentative options. Probably listed somewhere already, but could not find it.

E-mail: I like the page with Email info when swiping from an e-mail. But especially from tech-oriented sailors, I'd expected more tech stuff! :) So, I want full headers and source. Now I have to check spam-like e-mails on my laptop before deletion. Thanks!

WIFI,Bluetooth and Usb tethering support would be nice. (especially usb tethering since theres already an app for the first two)

Wifi tethering works out-of-the-box with current releases, USB tethering is easy (in fact, I'm using this right now, so yeah, it works :)). But indeed, it would be really nice to have bluetooth and usb tethering out-of-the-box as well. Especially bluetooth tethering is very important to connect laptops and tablets to the internet while on the road.

Fuzzillogic ( 2014-12-16 13:30:40 +0300 )edit

You're right. In the mean time I also got usb tethering to work. Works really nice but it s a shame it only works with the mobile network and not with wifi.

Seems unnecessary to add this to the list list, right?

Ability to change password for the exchange mail. Recreating the account each time the password is changed is a bit tedious in the long run.
