Similar to Ubuntu's 100 paper cut project, I propose to launch a similar project listing 100 bugs persistent in the latest SFOS release (3.2.0.12), which are annoying/damaging user experience while also being relatively minor to fix.

Not sure if similar ideas have been launched or proposed (and succeeded or failed), but the goal is to help Sailfish OS developers identify, in one wiki post, the most annoying minor bugs that, if fixed, can hugely improve the experience of using SFOS.

I propose the following rules :

  • A minor bug that annoy/damage the user experience
  • Only for SFOS core OS for starter (no Android compatibility bugs)
  • Targets also Jolla's official apps (mail, calendar, etc.)
  • No major features (new browser engine, QT version upgrade, etc.), these are not paper cuts
  • Separate post or answer for each paper cut bug, and listing as a link in the main wiki post
  • Unofficial patches are not considered as a fix. Users need not to hack their device to have a usable OS.

Please read through the entire list before adding items to avoid duplication

Please don't use this question as a dump for bug reports and feature requests. This is for paper cut bugs

The question is if jolla wan'ts to put the effort in fixing those without some of their customers demanding it. Which seems to be the case. :/

BTW when we gather 100 small bugs we can discuss it in a meeting if someone from jolla hasn't responded here regarding resolution.

This is a very good initiative, @ApB.

Shouldn't we drop numbering the list? They're all equally annoying.

Regarding "The Settings app Apps and Accounts options dont fit with the rest.". IMHO it's not a bug, it's by design, so a matter of taste. It would be better in a separate issue/question so people can vote for it.

Dial keypad feedback lag (DTMF playback) - embarrassing and disruptive likewise

This is problably one of the longest standing annoyances, which I immedieately noticed right after unboxing my JP1 in 2015: Entering a telephnoe number via dial keypad plays DTMF sound (I assume it's DTMF, no evidence that it's correct DTMF coding nor if it's related to in-band DTMF function in any way).

But there's a lag with jitter on top :-(

You press the key and it takes a big fraction of a second until you hear the feedback sound (DTMF most likely). The time it takes is varying. This is especially disturbing if you enter a number out of mind quickly - the feedback you get makes you unsure about the numbers you already entered...

And, the other day a friend was watching me and asked, why my phone is that busy that entering a phone number is overloding the phone... Kind of embarrassing to explain that it's not overloaded but by design. Again, I have to reference my E7, loaded with plenty of applications running on a well saturated and wimpy 600MHz single core, but was capable to cope with the user entering a phone number. Would love to see my 10 times more powerful successor to also acknowledge DTMF instantly - for human sense at least.

P.S.: As a work arround one could buy a drum set and practice all kinds of ostinato and rudiments to stay focused while the audio feedback tries to distrub you - hasn't helped in my case ;-) Maybe that's why I'm espessially annoyed by this "cosemtic" bug? How do non-drummers feel? Anybody else out there typing phone numbers at all (or every body else just dailing from "contacts")?

In my case only the first one is delayed or actually skipped. All other play in some millisecond.

I just find it annoying and usually disable it, but now enabled and tested again. I think it is more than satisfying (Sailfish X on Xperia X latest stable).

Might be indeed something is wrong with your profile. What phone and version do you have?

Currently using Rokua on Xperia X. But I never had a version without that lag (starting with Saiima). My estimation is that the lag is at least 200ms. One number off for typing numbers out of mind; and I cant type more than 2-4 digits/sec. But I think you are right that the "jitter" only affects the first entry. After that the delay seems to be constant - but not less disturbing.

How do you turn it off? I use two Xperia X, both reflashed and induvidually set up and the delay is the same on both, so it's unlikely to be a profile issue. Maybe others don't see 250ms as a problem - I know my personal threshold is a bit low - 50-60ms is ok (typical SSH RTT), 100ms is ok for conversations, but already too much for tactile, acoustic or visual feedback (visual bell).

Point is, there's no reason for such a delay. If it's about differenciating between short and long press, there's better ways than to wait until threshold timeout lapses - Windows XP explorer had such a stupid behaviour for single klick, waiting the threshold of the double click timeout.

Looking forward to hear more opinions - I'm quiet sure that the real delay is exactly the same for every user out there, but the notice will vary by some orders of magnitude probably.
